Why does my cat scoot and have loose poop? Is it anal glands?

I'm sorry but I'm not 100% sure what your question is so I hope I appropriately address you issue. If not, you are welcome to post again. If the anal glands have been expressed it is irritating to the animal so they will often scoot for a couple days after expression. Since it is irritating, they will sometimes poop small amounts like that. The URI should have nothing to do with this issue. They are two separate problems. I do not know what her diet is but I would strongly recommend you use Purina ProPlan Sensitive Skin and Stomach. I have had great luck with this food and issues like this. She is very young to already have anal gland problems and this food may help. You should be able to easily find this food locally. Start with mostly her old food and a tiny amount of new food and then each day increase the amount of new food and decrease the amount of old food. After 7 days she should be eating all the new food. KitKat May have full anal glands. These are scent glands at the end of her rectum. I would recommend bringing her to your veterinarian to have them express her glands to make herself comfortable. This sounds suspicious that your cats anal glands may be full. The anal glands are located just inside the rectum at the 4 and 10 o'clock position and when they are full they can cause irritation resulting in the pet scooting across the carpet. So this is a common presentation. Typically the anal glands are expressed by pets when they go poop, but in obese or overweight pets this is difficult and can result in them not being expressed properly. So first thing is to get the anal glands checked by a veterinarian to avoid having them rupture because of over-filling. The second thing is to get your kitty on a low fat diet or weight loss routine, such as decreasing portions and limited extra calorie snacks. Sometimes a piece of litter will stick to the hair around the rectum or penis, & rather than groom it off, a cat will scoot. However, with the report that Pumpkin has had a loose stool in the past month, I would not be surprised if he had some intestinal parasites, possibly roundworms, or tapeworms. No emergency to have him seen by your veterinarian, just take him in at your convenience. Take care.

Issues with faeces such as these can be indicative of issues in the gut. It could just be inflammation such as gastroenteritis or colitis, but sometimes it can indicate problems such as inflammatory bowel disease or tumours etc. You could try adding a probiotic to both of their feed and see if that helps, but I think it would be worth taking them both to the vet for an exam if it continues for more than a day or so.
