My cat got ringworm cream in her eye, now it's swollen. What to do?

Unfortunately, it sounds like a cream will not be a good option for Ember due to the location. Antifungal creams can be very irritating to the eyes. I am sorry to hear about your kitten! I would recommend bringing her in for an exam at your vet. If the swelling is progressing tonight or she develops any difficulty breathing I would get her to the emergency vet. We could have swelling do to an allergic reaction from an insect bite or exposure to any other substance/plant (most of the time we don't see a mark/know the cause) but I would also want to check for things like an abscess or infected tooth causing swelling. It sounds like he may also have a mild upper respiratory infection (like us having a cold) that he has passed to the other cats. With the redness of his eye plus the discharge and irritated third eyelid, this can be signs of an eye infection. I would have Gatsby seen by a vet as soon as possible for this. The vet can diagnose if he is suffering from an eye infection and can prescribe medication for it. It's very important to have any eye problem checked out promptly because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. Have Gatsby seen first thing in the morning.

The bald spot doesn't look very swollen, but the eyelid does. I'm thinking that the dettol may have gotten in the eye, which could cause it to get very inflamed like this. I reccomend rinsing the area with clean water for two minutes. Do not apply dettol to the cat anymore - as a general rule you should not apply dettol to animals, because it can cause damage to the skin. The best thing you can do is take Misty to the vet. The bald area could be ringworm and the eye could be damaged and require further treatment. A vet would be able to diagnose the problem and provide the best treatment options.

It's hard to tell from your description what the red area could be. If it is within her eyelids it may be her inner 3rd eyelid. It could also be an abscess under the skin. As I can't be certain what structure it is, I don't recommend applying any medicine to it unless your vet instructs you to after an exam. If the swelling is still present tomorrow, take her in for an exam.

It would be best to bring Cata into your vet to confirm the ringworm (they can look at it under a special light to confirm it) and get a medicated shampoo or oral medication to treat it with. As ringworm is contagious to other pets and people, it is best to keep Cata isolated from other pets and to thoroughly wash hands/change clothing after handling the affected area. Keeping Cata from scratching at it with the use of an Elizabethan (cone) collar can also help prevent the spread to the rest of her body.

Given that it has been infected for over a year, there may no longer be any sight in the eye, and it may be best to have the eye removed depending on the severity of the infection. It certainly will be very painful to her. I would not recommend using the leftover eye cream on the eye, and if you can trap her, I would take her into a vet as soon as possible to have her eye examined.
