My cat's respiratory infection worsened, now stiff legs. Is he dying?

I am sorry junior is not feeling well. I would try to get him to the vet as soon as possible. My concern with him going outside would be a possible exposure to a toxin. However infection (like an abscess), viral disease, bacterial disease and fungal can cause breathing issues. If you are unable to make it to a vet you can try to nebulize Junior by placing him in a bathroom- run the shower with hot water to create steam for him to inhale.

I agree that a high temp like that could be a bacterial infection but it can also be a protozoal infection, pain from a clot or back injury, or even cancer. It is unlikely to be kidney disease in my opinion but bloodwork is needed to be certain. I’d take her to an emergency clinic right away for a second opinion. Next steps would be bloodwork including an FIV/FeLV screen and xrays to make sure she didn’t break a bone or have some other obvious problem. Best wishes to you and Nova.

With what you are describing I am very worried that he is in shock, and may have an infection on top of the botulism, or may not be able to breathe well. He could require help breathing as the muscles of the chest wall fail. It can take a very long time for the botulism to be out of the system, and there are many complicating factors with the disease as well. Unfortunately it sounds like Gargour might be suffering at this point, so I recommend you take him back to the vet for further treatment. I hope he feels better soon!

Hi there. Due to the nature of your pet's illness and conccurrent illnesses-it sounds as if he may have a few things going on. If he was still suffering from residual effects from the ivermectin poisoning, it is likely the Bartonella is even harder on his small body. Depending on the age of your animal and the level of tissue damage from the illnesses (both of which we are unsure of here) it's is impossible to predict his likelihood of recovery or how long the seizures will last. Normally, I will tell you that seizures in this particular case is a relatively poor prognostic indicator. Any animal that had undergone so many issues in a short time should be hospitalized and on iv fluids if at all possible for treatment. My best to you both.

I am so very sorry to hear about your kitty Tiger. It sounds like he has worsened. You don't mention if your vet gave any indication of what could cause the lungs to be unclear. There are many possible causes including things like pneumonia, heart disease, or cancers. If Tiger is declining/worsening, and is unable to walk across the room, it sounds like he may need more aggressive care such as oxygen supplementation. Treatment, if possible, would depend on the underlying cause of the lung issue but may include things like antibiotics or medication to decrease water retention. In some instances, when the vet feels treatment is not going to be helpful/is not an option and the pet's quality of life is declining, we do consider humane euthanasia as another possible option. I would recommend calling the vet who saw your kitty and giving them an update on his decline. Be sure your kitty has easy access to food and water and his litterbox without having to walk far if he is getting tired so easily. You can also put a humidifier in the room with him to help keep moisture in the ear, which is better for airway health, but in severe cases such as his, more intensive treatment is usually needed.

I'm not sure what is causing it either, it's probably not related to the upper respiratory infection or to the treatment though. you will need to take him back to the vet so he can be physically checked for this new condition.

That sounds like a really tough case. You may need to talk to your vet about advanced diagnostics such as MRI or CT scan, or a referral to a specialist. Has your vet done blood cultures? Checked fungal titers? Tick-transmitted diseases? You may also discuss supportive therapies with your vet, such as cold laser therapy or medical acupuncture.
