Is Renal K powder as effective as Tumil K tablets for my pet?

I wouldn’t have concerns about giving the Vetri-Science supplement along with enalapril and pimobendan, but it would be a good idea to check in with your vet first, particularly to see if a potassium has been checked recently. I am not familiar with the other supplement but do recommend the Vetri-Science. There is some evidence that a restricted protein diet can help with proteinuria so this may be worth discussing with your vet as well.

I recommend to call the makers of the renal support. They will be able to give you the best information about any potential overdose issues. Depending on the amount of potassium potentially in the supplement, this could create too much potassium in your dog’s system and this could be detrimental to his heart (and even fatal). The pet poison control hotline may also be another good resource. Start making your phone calls quickly so that vomiting can be induced if needed. I hope this helps and that your pup does well.

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Any medication can cause an upset tummy. Personally I haven't had a cat develop diarrhea from it. I wonder if Tony's loose stool and decrease appetite has more to do with the underling illness is causing the low potassium in the first place. I would call your Vet and tell them what is going on with Tony in case they want to modify the plan. I hope this helps!

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I am sorry to see that Boomer is in renal failure. What I typically recommend for renal failure in dogs are the following products: 1. Rehmannia 8 liquid or tablets 2. Epakitin (to help bind excessive phosphorus) 3. Renal support by Standard Process 4. Azodyl probiotic capsules (if you are not already giving these) 5. Prescription kidney diet such as Hills K/D 6. Renal K+ 7. Anti-nausea medications (Cerenia / Zofran) Some of these are more natural products and obviously the anti-nausea medications are prescription drugs but can help keep Boomer more comfortable. I also managed a kidney failure patient who also had lymphoma with all of the above including subcutaneous fluids and also treating him twice weekly in a hyperbaric chamber. His original prognosis was 3 months and that prognosis was given 15 months ago. If you have someone in your area that has a hyperbaric chamber, you can speak with them about treating Boomer with it. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Tony. Have you tried supplementing his potassium with the gel form? I find this much easier to give to cats. You can feed it to him directly or place it on his paw to lick off. RenaPlus Gel may be worth a try for him. I hope this information helps!

This product is touted as a treatment for urinary stones, UTI and promotes kidney function. One study of a group of just 30 dogs showed some degree of benefit. If your plan is to use this product, it would be prudent to discuss it with your veterinarian before starting.
