How to relieve my cat's engorged teats after kittens left early?

This is a common problem when the babies are not weened off of them. They are full of milk. Many times the milk will be absorbed by the body and not be a problem. Sometimes an infection can start though.

You can help relieve the pressure by placing a towel soaked with warm water over the teets for 20minutes twice a day. This help relax and soothe the area. They should start to get smaller within a week. It will take a few weeks before they go all the way down though.

Watch for these signs of an infection:

1) The teets start to look red or blue. The veins will naturally give a blue appearance, but in an infection the skin will turn blue or red.

2) Blood or blood-tinged fluid dripping from the teat.

If you think it looks infected, then you will need to take her to a veterinarian, so they can diagnose and treat the infection.
