My cat's kittens died. How do I care for her teats and ensure she's okay?

I am so sorry that you lost all the kittens. Rooster should dry up her milk all on her own within a few days to a week. However since she is so skittish it will be hard to tell, so pay attention to her eating habits and behavior. If she stops eating or becomes extremely mopey and lethargic, then it's best to take her to your nearest veterinarian for help at that point. However, in most situations cats do very well with drying up their own milk stores. Also I would recommend having Rooster examined at some point just to make sure she is overall healthy and doing well, especially after loosing her entire litter of kittens. If that occurs you will need to take her to a vet , as me may be getting mastitis. Other than that, feed her normally, make sure she has enough to drink (water. There could be a few causes including a viral infection, parasites, poor milk quality, premature birth or a congenital issue within Peaches that made it so the kittens did not form properly. Peaches will be ok. Be sure to give her plenty of attention and stick to a routine. Her milk will dry up within a week or so. Do monitor her teats for any signs of infection like redness or pain. I recommend to have Peaches spayed within 8 weeks from the birth. Having a cat spayed has many health and behavioral benefits. Additionally, 1 female cat can have almost 30 kittens in a year if not kept indoors and away from male cats. That's a lot of kittens/cats to care for. Not to mention hundreds of thousands of cats and kittens are destroyed every year because there are not enough homes. I hope this helps and my condolences.

This is a common problem when the babies are not weened off of them. They are full of milk. Many times the milk will be absorbed by the body and not be a problem. Sometimes an infection can start though. You can help relieve the pressure by placing a towel soaked with warm water over the teets for 20minutes twice a day. This help relax and soothe the area. They should start to get smaller within a week. It will take a few weeks before they go all the way down though. Watch for these signs of an infection: 1) The teets start to look red or blue. The veins will naturally give a blue appearance, but in an infection the skin will turn blue or red. 2) Blood or blood-tinged fluid dripping from the teat. If you think it looks infected, then you will need to take her to a veterinarian, so they can diagnose and treat the infection. I hope that helps and Candy feels better soon.

The only thing you can do is to remove the kittens. If they continue to nurse she will continue to produce milk. It takes a few weeks for her to dry up, but there is nothing you can do to make it go any faster.

Hi, it depends.. is he feeding from mum ? If he is not, then you can try bottle feeding. You will obviously need some kitten formula milk, if you haven’t bottle fed kittens before it might be worthy to speak to you vet/vet technician, keep the kitten warm. There might be that there is something that the kittens have contracted, such as a virus that has caused the other two to die. I would ring your vet and discuss all this and have the third kitten and mum checked over. Hope this helps !
