What's causing my cat's red, raw, scabby nose? Allergy or SCC?

From the image it is very hard to see exactly what is going on with Taido's nose, however you cannot rule out SCC with just lack of nasal discharge or seizures. The only way to rule this out is by taking a sample of the mass and sending it for histopathology. The early stages will not result in discharge or seizures, and early stages are when you want to catch it. I would recommend having a sample of the mass on the nose taken and sent away for histopathology, as masses on the nose like that are not common and therefore and not something straight-forward that will get an easy answer. Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly an infection. However, this is a somewhat common location for a tumor in cats as well. I still think that a focal infection or traumatic lesion is more likely. You can use a topical medication like Douxo 3% PS pads which you may find online. You can apply this to the affected area twice daily for 2 weeks. If this does not resolve or appears to be progressing, have Lovey evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Poor Squeekers. This could be due to allergy or insect hypersensitivity. I would be sure that he is on adequate parasite prevention such as Revolution. In some cats lesions such as these can be autoimmune. I would recommend trying to keep indoors if possible to see if they start resolving. If Binx lets you clean the nose with antiseptic solution, you should do it every 8-12hrs. Please, take Binx to your local vets tomorrow as he may need treatment with a course of anti-inflammatory medications.

Hi and thanks for posting on Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It is hard to say what is causing the red lesions underneath the nose here for Ollie without seeing Ollie first. It could be an abrasion from friction during nursing or other trauma to the area. It could also be a bacterial or fungal infection potentially. If the lesions don't improve or go away soon I would recommend taking Ollie in to see a veterinarian to get them checked out in person.

However, I think a fungal infection like cryptococcus seems more likely and that would only respond to anti-fungal therapy. Another possibility is cancer such as squamous cell carcinoma. I recommend you consider having him reevaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. May be a biopsy could be done at this time since it has not improved. Dark scabby areas on the head and necks of cats are often attributable to a complex known as eosinophilic plaques. Many are allergic in origin, and respond to a change in diet (hypoallergenic diets such as those made with "novel" protein and carbohydrate sources or hydrolyzed diets such as Hill's z/d) and treatment with immunosuppressive drugs. Some studies also point to a tie-in with feline herpes virus. Diagnosis is made via biopsy. These lesions can occur on the lips, inside the mouth, just about anywhere on the head or on the pads of the feet. I've also seen them on the abdomen. Again, it's really important to get a biopsy done, because the appearance can mimic some cancers (squamous cell carcinoma) and also some fungal diseases that are quite serious.
