My cat has recurring sores on his back. Could someone be hurting him?

These sound like wounds from being in a bad fight with another cat. It’s best to have these treated by your veterinarian if you can. In the meantime clean each wound with hydrogen peroxide and then apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on them. I’m concerned about the ones around his anus. There may be a tear in the rectum that may be very serious and need a veterinary exam to determine if the feces are coming out the wound. If so this could cause more infection and may need to be stitched closed. Antibiotics will help these wounds heal more quickly also. Poor Gravy! Those do look painful. If you haven't yet, a skin scraping of the site sent to a lab may help determine if there is a specific bacteria or infection causing the wounds. This may give your vet the ability to target it better with a more specific antibiotic that will help it to heal. Making sure to keep Gravy from pawing at the spot with an Elizabethan (cone) collar can also help promote healing and prevent further irritation. In long-term non-healing wounds, many vets have also found success using Manuka honey (different than the honey you get in the grocery store) as a salve to help promote tissue growth and healing. From the picture I can only say this may be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria or fungal). A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics or antifungal meds (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. More investigations like sampling and bacterial swabs would be needed to determine the underlying cause more specifically. In my experience I have seen large wounds like this one from Poxvirus infection (but usually other wounds are present as well). I would suggest to handle this wound always with gloves (you are doing it anyway as I can see from the pic). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any licking. Poor kitty! It looks like your cat has a skin infection but there could be other issues as well. Sometimes allergies can actually cause those problems to come up. Virgil should be seen by his veterinarian so they can determine if medication is needed for these spots as well as how to avoid them coming back

Your cat could have allergies and these are commonly seen in cats that are vomiting or have skin issues like this. He may need to be on allergy medication like steroids, or benefit from a strict prescription food allergy diet trial with a food like Royal Canin hypoallergic or Hills z/d.

These are skin infections that you are describing. For a cat to get these regularly indicates that his immune system is not working properly. For this to be happening all of his life, I would be most suspicious of an FIV or FeLV infection. Either way, I recommend you schedule a consult with a veterinarian. They would be able to better evaluate Parker's lesions and help narrow down the cause of this. What you are seeing on Luna may be insect bites or a skin condition known as eosinophilic granuloma complex. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine Luna so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made.
