Why is my cat losing fur and getting sores on his back and legs?

It sure sounds like Micole is itchy! Problems such as skin infections, ringworm, mites, And allergies can all cause these symptoms. Louise could have developed this lesion for several reasons including allergies, skin mites, flea bites, ringworm (which humans can get), over grooming or a bacterial infection. You can try adding in an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets, this can help improve the skin health. You may also try changing her diet to something like Royal Canin or Nutro as they are aimed at skin health. Check her for fleas using a flea comb around her lower back and between her hind legs. Protect the areas from licking or scratching (she may need to wear an elizabethan collar). If it doesn't start looking better within about a week or if it gets worse, have her examined by the veterinarian who may prescribe medications. I would make sure the veterinarian scrapes the skin to check for parasites of the skin. This may also need an oral antibiotic in addition to topical therapy to see if it will respond. You can also try a different shampoo such as Douxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly. If there is no improvement and your vet is unable to resolve this, I would recommend a second opinion with a veterinary dermatologist if possible. I hope this helps! From the photos, it looks like the skin has some red lesions. Hair loss can indicate many things including over grooming, ringworm (which humans can get), scabies (which can also effect humans) or other skin mites, hyperthyroidism or allergies (fleas, food or environmental). Unfortunately, all these lesions look similar. A physical exam and some basic diagnostics are needed to determine the underlying cause. Over grooming is more difficult to determine and is generally determined based upon ruling out other causes, a physical exam and a thorough medical history. I think your best option is to have Puds examined by the veterinarian. At home you can try giving him an omega 3 fatty acid supplement for pets but it may not correct the underlying cause. This can however improve over all skin health. There are two brands of food, Royal Canin and Nutro, which are aimed at skin health and they may help as well but again, they may not affect the underlying problem. Some appear to be infected. This may be from the stress of moving coupled with a new environment and allergens he is not used to. Since they are so wide spread it is best to have him checked for ringworm also. Your vet can prescribe antibiotics to help clear the infection and treat the underlying cause.

Poor girl! I cannot say for sure what caused these but it looks like she needs to be seen by your vet. Your vet will be able to take a closer look to what the cause may be and whether or not they need to be addressed with some meds like antibiotics, burn creams, or pain meds. The fact that the hair is gone and the skin is really red makes me think of some type burn (cold or heat) or an allergy of some sort or even over grooming. I worry if left untreated, it could get worse or keep spreading. If she is itching, you could try Benadryl but keep a close eye on her.
