How will my cat react when her bonded kitten friends move out?

Cats tend to be quite adaptable and able to adjust to a new environment well, so I think Blueberry and her kitten will probably do just fine! Of course, every cat is different - some cats love the extra stimulation and socialization that comes with having other cats in the household, while other cats prefer to live on their own and are stressed by having other animals around. You know Blueberry best and might be the best judge as far as how she'll do. If you're worried about how she'll respond, you could always consider this a "trial run", and let your friend know that if your cats don't seem to be adjusting well, you could take them back to find better arrangements. You should anticipate that the first week or two will be an adjustment period and your cats might do a bit more hiding than usual, and initial encounters with the other household cats will probably include some hissing as they figure each other out - but within a few weeks Blueberry and her kitten should be looking more relaxed and comfortable in their new surroundings. Now if they truly did not get along well and the other kitty was trying to harm your older kitty, it is probably best to keep them separate. It is not uncommon for them to miss each other for a bit though this will improve very soon. I think you have made the right choice. Good luck!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cats are finicky creatures. Cats tend to only like the cats they know. Even though your cat seems to like the ones she lives with doesn't mean she will like a new cat. Cats are territorial and like their own personal space. I would first allow your cat to get used to your new house with your boyfriend. See how is goes over several months. She will be stressed for a while just because of the move. Then see how she is once she is settled. If you want to get another cat for company consider it in a few months. Good luck!

The cat which is not going into a multicat household will have more serious problems as she will be very lonely. He will need very much attention and love and likely will search for the missing kitty. Try not to separate them if you can somehow manage. or find a new home that will take both of them.

This is a plug in diffuser that release calming pheromones that can help with things like anxiety from separation. If one of them is really stressed, that cat may need to see a vet in order to get medication to help. Typically, they do adjust over time and do okay, especially since it's only temporary. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Finella! I am assuming the kittens are weaned and at new homes? If so then she will be fine soon. Try to keep everything stable and the routines the same. Animals can pick up on our distress too. She is still hormonal in a sense but will slowly get over the kittens growing up and leaving. The other possibility is that she is in heat again. Cats can go right back in to heat quickly after the kittens are weaned. If the kittens are still int eh house, gradually limit her time with them. I know in previous posts that she recently lost a kitten, she could be more searching for that one. She will need more time to adjust to the lose of that kitten. I wish you the best!
