My cat is distressed after rehoming her aggressive friend. Help!

Cats tend to be quite adaptable and able to adjust to a new environment well, so I think Blueberry and her kitten will probably do just fine! Of course, every cat is different - some cats love the extra stimulation and socialization that comes with having other cats in the household, while other cats prefer to live on their own and are stressed by having other animals around. You know Blueberry best and might be the best judge as far as how she'll do. If you're worried about how she'll respond, you could always consider this a "trial run", and let your friend know that if your cats don't seem to be adjusting well, you could take them back to find better arrangements. You should anticipate that the first week or two will be an adjustment period and your cats might do a bit more hiding than usual, and initial encounters with the other household cats will probably include some hissing as they figure each other out - but within a few weeks Blueberry and her kitten should be looking more relaxed and comfortable in their new surroundings. The best way to reintroduce them is by doing it very slowly and for short amounts of time and always supervised while they get used to each other. If you are persistent and consistent, you may get them to get used to each other. There is a chance that they will not get along and you may have to keep them separate. No, I wouldn't take him back, he's bonded to you. It just takes time to adjust to a new home, and if you want, you can get him a companion for your home. Just give him time. When my ex and I broke up, he didn't take the dog who was super bonded to him. She sat by the front door for a long time waiting for him to come home, but she got over it, and was happy and loving life with me. I just gave her extra love and attention during that transition time. It will be ok, trust me. I hope this helps!

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Cats are finicky creatures. Cats tend to only like the cats they know. Even though your cat seems to like the ones she lives with doesn't mean she will like a new cat. Cats are territorial and like their own personal space. I would first allow your cat to get used to your new house with your boyfriend. See how is goes over several months. She will be stressed for a while just because of the move. Then see how she is once she is settled. If you want to get another cat for company consider it in a few months. Good luck!

I'm sorry for you loss of your other kitties! It may take some time for Tori Lee and your other cat to get along. I would give it more time. In the meantime I suggest getting a Feliway diffuser to help reduce stress in the household. It's also helpful to have plenty of cat towers to allow the cats to see each other but not directly interact. There should be at least two food and water bowls in separate locations. You also want to make sure you have a separate litter box for each cat and one additional litter box (so in your case, 3 boxes) placed in different locations. These steps can facilitate a happier household with cats who are more likely to get along. Finally, if they don't warm up to each other in a few more weeks, that may just be how it's going to be. Just like people, cats have preferences for who they do and do not like. As long as they are not fighting or injuring each other this is not an issue. I hope this helps!
