My newly rescued cat might be pregnant. What are the next steps?

From these pictures it does appear that Coco’s abdomen is slightly distended. However, there can be many other reasons for abdominal distention such as fluid in the belly, heart disease, false pregnancy and/or intestinal parasites. My best recommendation would be to take Coco in the vet to be examined. This would give you a better idea of her overall health and they may be able to determine if she is pregnant. I would highly recommend that you take her to your veterinarian to check her pregnancy status and also at least run some general labwork to check on her general condition. How lovely of you to look after these kitties, and to take them with you! I would take them both into a vet for a health check to make sure everything is ok with them. The vet can also confirm if the other cat is pregnant. Once they give birth, you can have them spayed after the kittens are weaned, and you can get their vaccines. Mia does look like her abdomen is mildly distended, which may be due to pregnancy, or may be secondary to another underlying issue (fluid accumulation, etc.). If she is pregnant and her expected due date is in 2-3 weeks, an xray can verify pregnancy, as well as count how many kittens (if any) she is going to have (and sometimes kittens can be felt on physical examination). I would recommend having her evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if she is pregnant or if she has another underlying issue that needs to be addressed. Good luck!

Hello. I am very concerned about her condition. If she is indeed pregnant, being so malnourished could cause many problems with her pregnancy. Poor Mama cat! Hopefully she is doing ok. I'd recommend getting a vet visit for her in the near future to spay her, and consider doing an infectious disease bloodwork panel. I worry that having congenital abnormalities with the kittens might mean that she has an infectious disease. Also, if she is not current on vaccinations get those done so she is protected in the future from infectious disease.

Hello. Make sure your Momma cat has a quiet, safe & secure area to have her kittens, away from noise, other pets, & weather. You can begin feeding her a good kitten food ( dry or canned ) and continue the kitten food up until the kittens are weaned . This will give her extra calories to maintain her pregnancy & provide plenty of rich milk for her kittens.
