My cat is pooping worms after dewormer. Is this normal or bad?

They may or may not be related to the deworming today, but either way they definitely roundworms! Call your vet to let them know what you saw. Chances are that the dewormer they used today will be enough to treat them. Make sure to repeat the deworming in 3-4 weeks to make sure the infection is completely taken care of!

This is not uncommon to see. The dewormer works by paralyzing the worms and they are sometimes only partially affected by the drug. The fact that they are coming out shows that it's working to a certain degree; and the worms will likely die soon. No need to worry. Keep up with the deworming schedule as prescribed by your vet and she should be rid of them soon.

This can be a normal response to the deworming pill. I recommend giving a bland diet for a couple days such as boiled chicken, scrambled eggs, or low fat cottage cheese. If it continues after a couple days, or he stops eating/drinking, Meow should be seen by a veterinarian in the case he needs medical treatment/care.

Yes, this is normal. The medication is working and due to the lifecycle of the worms, that other dose is need to kill all of them. This second dose should help kill them all and he should stop shedding the worms with a week after the last dose. I hope this helps!

Animals with high burdens (large numbers) of worms can both vomit and poop out the worms and this can be normal. The concerning part of this for Piggy is that she was given a very strong medication to stop vomiting, and is vomiting anyways. This might be a sign that she has such a large number of worms that they might be causing a blockage in her intestines so that they cannot flow through. I recommend monitoring Piggy very carefully. If she continues to vomit, isn't eating, isn't pooping at all, or if she seems weak, tired, sore or bloated in her abdomen/stomach, then I would get her to a vet right away for x-rays as she might need surgery. Another possible but less likely condition is called an intussusception (where the intestines 'telescope' inside itself and cause death to that part of the intestine) and will cause the same signs as above, and requires surgery to fix. These conditions are unlikely to happen but important to watch for. If she is otherwise eating and keeping some food down, pooping, playing and acting normally, then just continue to monitor her and you will likely see the worms coming through her poop soon. Sometimes the worms die and just come out like mucus in the stool, not full worms. If you gave the proper dose I’m sure it was effective. I would recommend rechecking a stool sample. Parasites are not consistent shedders so he may also had a different intestinal parasites that the dewormer didn't cover and may need something else. I would recommend another visit to your veterinarian to have them perform a stool sample. I would also recommend a prescription bland diet.
