My cat has pink eye. What should I do about her eye infection?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Snowball. He may have a skin infection affecting the skin surrounding his eye. This can happen as the primary problem such as the result of an allergy. It could also be the result of self trauma. If he is continually paw at the eye, then can cause damage. If his eye hurts or itches, he will want to paw at it. His veterinarian will examine him and may recommend some eye tests. In the meantime, place an E-collar on him to prevent her from pawing if he has been doing so. I hope this information helps!

Poor Snowball! Since she is still squinting with watery eye discharge after 6 days on Terramycin, you should take her to the vet now. The most common cause of recurrent eye issues and sneezing is due to viral infections (herpesvirus and calicivirus) that can cause both eye and upper respiratory signs when they shed intermittently. Signs typically resolve once the virus is done shedding, but many cats can also develop secondary bacterial infections which require antibiotics for treatment. In the long term, discuss using a Lysine supplement (Viralys is one example) for Snowball with her vet. I hope that all goes well for Snowball!

I am so sorry to hear that Ichabod is experiencing these problems with his eyes. Thank you for providing an excellent picture, it seems slightly redx the third eye lid is protruding, and has discharge. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Ichabod to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Him to scratch or rub hiseye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with cats, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly in I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. I would recommend taking her to the vet today. It could be an infection, conjunctivitis, or a corneal ulcer or abrasion. The vet will do a thorough exam and use a special stain to see if there is an ulcer. Then they will prescribe appropriate medications. Try to keep her from rubbing the eye any more, as this could cause trauma to the eyeball.

It does look as if your car has an eye infection. If there is any associates sneezing and/or coughing it may be an upper respiratory infection as well. Based on the pictures a corneal ulceration cannot be ruled out. I would recommend taking your cat in to be examined by your veterinarian so the exact cause of the eye discharge can be determined. It looks like a possible eye infection, but it is impossible to diagnose an eye problem based on a picture alone, you will have to take Snowy to your vet ASAP in order to get the eyes checked and treated.
