Why is my cat peeing blood and not using her litter box?

It is usually related to bacterial infection of the bladder but it may be due to bladder crystals or stress. Please, take her to your local vets for an appointment, as most likely she will need a course of antibiotics to get better.

It sounds like Belle has blood in her urine. This could be due to bacterial infection, idiopathic cystitis, crystals in the urine or bladder stones. Belle needs to go to the veterinarian tomorrow to get her urine checked. These conditions are uncomfortable so the doctor will give her pain medications and treatment. Most cats will generally go back to using the litter box once the infection is cleared. I hope she starts feeling better soon!

She may not be eating because she is uncomfortable or has a fever. I recommend that Julie sees a Veterinarian. They may check her urine for infection or crystals. If she is older they may want to run blood work. They also may want to take an X-ray to check for a bladder stone. If it is a urinary tract infection she needs antibiotics. Poor Calliope! It sounds as though she has been through quite a bit recently. As a female cat, it would be highly unusual for her to develop a urinary tract obstruction, whereas it would be more expected in a male cat showing similar signs. As I'm sure you're aware, common causes of blood in the urine in female cats include urinary tract infection and bladder stones. In Calliope's case, a UTI has been ruled out and the chance of having bladder stones is quite low. However, there are a few types of bladder stones that are not visible on x-rays, but these are uncommon. At this point, it may be worth discussing an ultrasound of her bladder with your vet, as the types of bladder stones not typically visible on x-ray can often be seen on ultrasound. Since she is dragging her hind end, it also may be worth asking her vet to check her anal glands to see if these are causing additional irritation. A consultation with a specialist in veterinary internal medicine could also be considered. I hope this helps and that all goes well!

The only thing you can do is bring Billie Jo to a veterinarian as soon as possible. I would recommend seeing if you can find another veterinarian open but if that is your only option then once they are open go in. Blood in the urine can be due to a few different problems. If it is red-colored urine and Lily has been urinating more frequently lately, then it is most likely a bladder infection/inflammation, but could also be a kidney infection. If it appears like fresh blood at the end of the urine stream, then this could indicate a problem with the vagina, cervix, or could be coming from the rectum. Either way, it's best that you take Lily to a veterinarian for treatment soon. If she is going to the litter box and nothing is coming out within the last 24 hours, then this is an emergency and I recommend you take her to the vet immediately. They will be able to locate where the problem is and provide the most appropriate treatment. Either way, Lily will need a professional to diagnose this problem and to provide the most effective treatment. Without good treatment, she can have life-threatening complications. Urination outside the litterbox and blood in the urine can be caused by stress or behavioural issues, but can also be due to urinary tract infection, crystals in the urine, stones in the urinary tract, toxin ingestion, coagulation disorders, or trauma to the area. Another cause, which you referenced, is idiopathic cystitis or Feline Urinary Tract Disease, which can cause the symptoms you've noticed and can be triggered by stress. It is important that you make an appointment to have Keiko seen by your veterinarian immediately to help determine the cause of his behaviour and to start treatment. If you notice him straining to urinate/unable to produce urine, this is a medical emergency and he should be seen by a vet immediately. Pain medications meant for humans can be very dangerous (and even deadly) for cats, so I do not recommend giving any to Keiko without consulting with your vet. If medical causes are ruled out, it is possible that Keiko is exhibiting signs of stress in his home environment. You can do the following to help make sure Keiko ’s environmental needs are being met. Cats need at least one litterbox per cat plus one extra to help reduce stress associated with the litterbox. They should be placed in separate rooms, away from the food and water bowls, must be scooped at least daily (preferably multiple times a day)and washed out at least weekly with a mild soap, followed by thorough rinsing. Cats need a lot of space to explore, but keeping them indoors is much safer than letting them outside, due to the risk of injury from cars, wildlife, other animals, etc. The key is providing space (particularly vertical space for climbing, such as cat trees, ledges, and the like) inside the home.
