My cat's paw bone is exposed, no vet nearby. What's the emergency?

I'm not sure what articles you are reading, but a wound like this should never be left alone! If a bone or tendon is showing, that is a deep wound that requires stitches to close. In addition, Jack will need antibiotics to prevent an infection, and pain medications as this will be quite painful for him. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. I would take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

However, this does warrant an evaluation as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. She needs veterinary attention right away, this is a very serious wound and if treatment is postponed then she could be at risk of needing more extensive surgery. It is likely infected and also very painful. Imagine if your hand had the skin ripped off and bone exposed, you would be headed to the emergency room. I would look into finding a vet office that can take payments, apply for Care Credit, or borrow money from a friend or family member to have her seen. This is an emergency. Thank you for asking about this poor dog. I think there's enough evidence to say that the dog needs to go to a vet immediately. If the owners are unavailable, or are neglecting to take the dog to a vet, then please call animal control. They will ensure the dog gets veterinary treatment and will deal with the owners. You absolutely need to take Skully to the vet - this will not heal with bones sticking out and it is extremely painful for Skully. Unfortunately if he is too feral for surgery to treat the leg then humane euthanasia is the best choice for him. I’m so sorry that this has happened.

Hello. I am so sorry that your kitty was injured. Technically, this is an emergency because if an infection gets started in the bone, it can have serious consequences for her. It is very unlikely the tail will heal on its own, but I have seen this injury in feral cats & the tail tip can eventually just slough off. Keep cleaning the wound but do make an appointment with your veterinarian at your earliest convenience to have this taken care of properly. That appears to be an ingrown toe nail. The dewclaw nail can grow into a circle and into the paw pad. I would take it to the vet as soon as possible. This is very painful but also usually needs antibiotics due to infection.
