My feral cat has a severe leg injury with exposed bone. What to do?

What a beautiful cat! I can't see into the ears much but it looks like she may just have dirt or old wax debris in the ears. If she isn't scratching at them/shaking her head and they are not red/inflammed it isn't as concerning. What is very concerning is the fact that you say she has bone sticking out of the leg. If this is the case, she must see a veterinarian, as this is a dangerous situation where bacteria could enter the bloodstream through the exposed bone and cause her to become seriously ill. She needs veterinary care. If you cannot afford veterinary care for you then I would recommend finding a rescue group or shelter that can provide her with the care she needs, as it is not fair to her to leave her untreated. However, this does warrant an evaluation as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. I'm not sure what articles you are reading, but a wound like this should never be left alone! If a bone or tendon is showing, that is a deep wound that requires stitches to close. In addition, Jack will need antibiotics to prevent an infection, and pain medications as this will be quite painful for him. Please do not give him any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. I would take him into a vet immediately. Best of luck.

First off, good on you for trying to cat and help this poor animal. A broken leg would be very painful, and definitely needs treatment. While broken legs can heal on their own, they won't heal correctly, and the cat may not be able to use the leg properly. I would recommend calling your local SPCA for help with trapping the cat, as she needs medical treatment as soon as possible.

You should really convince your friend to take the cat to a vet as soon as possible. This can be corrected if a vet gives treatment soon enough and they can also give medication to control the pain. Otherwise, it is considered cruel to not give the cat appropriate care and the cat will be prone to infections and life-threatening complications. I would take your cat into a vet immediately. This will be extremely painful for him, and he needs treatment for the broken leg. Leaving it untreated can lead it to heal incorrectly affecting his ability to walk. It can also cause nerve damage.
