My feral cat has a severe leg injury with exposed bone. What to do?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 15 lbs

Our outdoor cat got his foot caught in the neighbors trap over Thanksgiving. He’s got a raw stump with bones sticking out a bit. I’ve been putting antibiotic ointment on with a loose wrap. What else can I do to help with healing? (He’s too ferrel to bring to a vet)

You absolutely need to take Skully to the vet - this will not heal with bones sticking out and it is extremely painful for Skully. Unfortunately if he is too feral for surgery to treat the leg then humane euthanasia is the best choice for him. I’m so sorry that this has happened.
