My cat is panting and meowing a lot. Is she pregnant or in heat?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | 10 lbs

I can't tell if my cat is going into labor, she keeps meowing for my attention, she pants a lot, she has been affectionate, but her appetite is fine and she isn't nesting also sometimes her stomach looks bigger than other days, so I can't tell if she is pregnant or not. Thank you for the help.

I can't tell for your pictures either if Jinx is pregnant. She wouldn't be uncomfortable or even nesting until the end of her pregnancy. And at that time it would be obvious: big belly, developed mammary tissue. If she isn't pregnant she could be in heat as they are more affectionate and vocalize more. Cats are only pregnant for 60 days, so if you still think she is pregnant you can take her to the Vet for an exam and X-rays towards the end of the 60 days to confirm. Otherwise if she keeps panting that is NOT normal in a cat and she should be seen.

If she isn't close to being due she should see a Vet right away. I would have her somewhere quiet and calm. Keep children, a lot of people and animals out. If there isn't a kitten born in 2 hours with this panting she should be seen by a Vet. Panting in cats is not normal in any other situation. I wish you the best!

Is my cat pregnant or in heat? Swollen nipples, licking, crying.

HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Her belly and mammary glands do not look distended enough to be pregnant unless she is early pregnant (2-4 weeks). I think she might be in heat. I would try to keep her inside as it doesn't take cats very long to get the deed done! Cats are pregnant for 60 days, so if her belly and mammary glands continue to get larger then she is likely pregnant and you'd have kittens 4-6 weeks from now. Good luck!

My cat has pregnancy symptoms. Is she pregnant? What should I do?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Mia does look like her abdomen is mildly distended, which may be due to pregnancy, or may be secondary to another underlying issue (fluid accumulation, etc.). If she is pregnant and her expected due date is in 2-3 weeks, an xray can verify pregnancy, as well as count how many kittens (if any) she is going to have (and sometimes kittens can be felt on physical examination). I would recommend having her evaluated by your regular veterinarian to determine if she is pregnant or if she has another underlying issue that needs to be addressed. Good luck!

My cat's nipples are pink and long. Is my year-old cat pregnant?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! If Khloe has been in heat and goes outdoors unobserved or lives with an intact male cat then she could be pregnant. I can’t tell by the picture because the nipples look relatively normal to me. Hormones can make them pinker and longer. Normal pregnancy lengths in cats is 60-63 days. I hope this helps!

My cat is 68 days pregnant, but her belly isn't big. What's wrong?

Hello. It is very difficult to say if she is or is not pregnant from these pictures, because if she is only carrying 1 or 2 kittens, then she would not be as big as one carrying 4-6 kittens. And if she is truly 68 days into a pregnancy, she is overdue. If she does have kittens you should be able to rub on her abdomen & feel some substantial "bumps" at this point in time. Is my pregnant cat's loud purring and shallow breathing a sign of labor?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! It could be a sign of impending labor! But not 100%. I would give her space and limit the number of people hovering around her and checking on her. Cats can delay labor when stressed. Leave her in a quiet room with a litter box, food and water. Provide a comfortable box or bed for her to have the babies. Check on her every few hours. Good luck!

My kitten is still sick with fever and panting. Is she in heat?

The postures in the photos do indeed look like she is in heat currently but they do not explain the fever, panting or high heart rate. Given it has not responded to medication so far, further investigation with a chest xray and blood work to assess for infection or inflammation may be worthwhile. I would not recommend breeding her given her current symptoms as pregnancy would be an additional strain and any heart or lung condition
