My cat has a painful growth on his claw. Is it serious and what to do?

This could be a keratinized horn or keratinized cyst. They can be painful and rarely associated with a viral infection. Oscar should get this checked out by his veterinarian who may be able to remove it, check the area for infection and discuss the possiblity of it coming back with you.

Anything you apply will likely be licked off and ingested. This could further complicate his condition. If a vet visit is not possible now, you can try soaking the paw in a diluted Betadine or chlorhexidine (Hibiclens) solution twice daily. Dry it thoroughly afterwards. An e-collar (cone) is your best bet at preventing licking which could delay healing. If this doesn't work, Thor will need to be seen by your veterinarian. He may need antibiotics to resolve any infection and pain medication to manage discomfort. Do not medicate him at home without the advice of your veterinarian.

The attached picture is blurry, but he could have a small mass growing or a cornified thickened area on his pad. After the examination, the veterinarian will let you know of treatment is required. Oh ouch! That looks really painful! I would highly encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. Topical antibiotics may be needed as well as pain medication. Unfortunately there is nothing safe for pain medication over the counter for cats. I agree that the cone is important to keep him from making it worse in the meantime. It's not related to the conjunctivitis, but cats can grown corns on the bottom of their feet. They can be removed if they grow large enough to cause discomfort, which this one might be. If it is removed, I recommend having it submitted for biopsy to make sure it's something benign and not a rare cancerous growth.

Ouch, poor Felix! If he can't walk on it, it looks infected, and he's hardly eaten or drank today, you should take him into a vet right away. It's likely very painful to him, causing him to not be able to put pressure on it. Severe pain would keep him from eating and drinking as well. The wound needs to be cleaned, he will need antibiotics for the infection, and pain medication. The vet can do all of this for him. Please do not give Felix any human pain medications, as many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. I would take him into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him now.
