Why is my cat in pain, stuck in a position, and struggling to sleep?

Poor CJ! It sounds like he is in pain if he's walking slower, struggling to lay down and get up, and cannot bend to clean himself. I would be concerned that he has a problem with his neck or back. It possible he was injured. My advice is to rest him tonight, and take him into a vet first thing in the morning. The vet can diagnose what is causing his pain, and can treat him for it. The vet can also prescribe pain medication as needed. Please do not give him any human pain medications, many are toxic to cats and are fatal if given. Best of luck.

I suspect Ginger may have been injured when she was outside. It sounds like she is in pain, and unfortunately there are no pain medication you can give her. Many human ones are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. Please take her into a vet immediately.

Definitely pursue those x-rays. That is a good idea. I also recommend that you have his blood and urine tested for abnormalities. Drinking excessive amounts of water and urinating excessively can indicate kidney disease, hyperthyroidism, liver disease or diabetes. Blood tests and the urine testing should give you some answers. Try to get these tests done ASAP. At home you can start him on an omega-3 fatty acid supplement, as well as a joint supplement for cats. Both of these will act like natural anti-inflammatories and improve the health of the joints in the spine. Best of luck and please feel free to post any additional questions.

With Gingy being an indoor and outdoor cat (I I am assuming he was outdoors based on saying he came in), I would be concerned about trauma such as a bite wound or something else going on that could lead to an abscess. I would recommend trying to at least call your veterinarian to see if they would like to see him or if they would prefer you to wait till Monday. If you cannot get a hold of your veterinarian and then my brain continues I recommend trying to find an emergency veterinarian to see him. In the meantime keep them indoors, watch for any increase in swelling or pain but do not give any human pain medication as it can be very toxic to cats.
