My cat was attacked and is hiding. What can I give him for pain?

I am sorry to hear about Eddie! Unfortunately there are not any safe pain medications available over the counter for cats. I would recommend getting Eddie to a veterinarian for an exam and pain medication (antibiotics may also be needed if bite wounds are present). Cats are very sensitive to drugs and there are only a few prescription pain medications available that are considered safe (these include buprenorphine and Onsior).

Unfortunately no. Many OTC pain medications are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. If Oliver is in a lot of pain, he needs to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. I would get him into a large crate if possible and minimize moving or handling until you can get to a vet. Do not give any otc pain meds as they are toxic to cats. Often vet clinics have an after hours emergency line so I would call your regular vet to see if they have an emergency service or where they refer emergencies to. Hi there. Sorry this happened to Oliver. I really think you need to get him to a vet ASAP. If he is in pain, crying when touched and not walking much on his hindquarters then he needs some pain medication at the very least. He may also need antibiotics if there is wound present you can't see. It is very common for cats, when they get into fights, to have wounds that don't show up until a day or two later when they turn into abscesses. There is no over the counter medication you can give him that are safe. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

He/she can prescribe a safe and effective pain medication for you to give at home for the next few days, such as gabapentin, buprenorphine, or tramadol.

Poor Sagan! I'm glad to hear that he's bearing weight on his right front leg. Since he's a young and presumably active cat, limping occurs most commonly from injuries. As you'd mentioned, it's possible that he has a soft tissue injury of the muscles, tendons or ligaments, or a fracture. Unfortunately, there are no safe over the counter pain medications for cats, as all cause serious toxic side effects. It would be ideal for Sagan to go to his vet for an exam. The vet may recommend x-rays right away, or may offer a trial of prescription pain medications and rest. If you aren't able to take him to a vet right away, then be sure to restrict his activity to a dog crate or small room where he is unable to run, jump or play for a few days. (Easier said than done, I realize.) If this is a mild soft tissue injury, he may just need some time to rest and heal.
