My pet keeps opening skin wounds. Are they infected or serious?

That looks more like an infection either from a bite wound, a puncture wound, a foreign body stuck under the skin or perhaps a very deep fungal infection. I recommend to have Baloo see his veterinarian today. The doctor may be able to tell what the cause is by palpation and perhaps aspiration of some fluid. Then appropriate treatment will be given. Then this may be something more serious like a skin infection, or Bruno could be very itchy, and in scratching himself, he is causing the wounds. I'd have him seen by a vet to have the cause of this diagnosed and treated.

I would recommend a vet check to thoroughly examine the area and determine if any infection is present or if it is an inflammatory / allergic response to the fleas which would be expected to respond quickly to prescription antiinflammatory medications. Your vet can also review your current flea prevention programs and advise on additional steps which may help

I agree, that sore looks very painful and sore, and I'm concerned it could be infected. This should not be treated at home. I would take her into a vet immediately to get this treated. Hi there and thank you for using Pet Coach! From the picture you have attached, I would suspect a bacterial skin infection, chronic wound, burn or contact dermatitis from something irritating. I would have this examined by a veterinarian in order to determine what this could be by testing this further. Pete will likely require oral antibiotics and topical treatment for appropriate therapy. It is impossible to tell from the picture how this happened, or how deep it is, but what can be determined is that it is a severely infected wound. Possible causes are penetrating traumas (sticks, bites, etc.), some parasites/worms can cause wounds like this, and some tumors can present in abnormal ways, however that is less likely. I strongly recommend that you have Star seen by a vet as soon as possible, as the wound appears deep and is definitely infected. It needs to be cleaned up, explored, and medications provided.
