My dog has itchy wounds under his fur. Is it a skin infection?

It looks like Bruno has a skin infection. Parasites like mites and fleas can cause irritation of the skin that can lead to bacterial infections. If he has not had skin scrapings performed to look for mites, that would be my recommendation. If there are no mites, and he has been treated for fleas, then perhaps the topical medications he is on are not enough, and he needs an oral antibiotic to control the infection. I hope this helps. It could be Bruno was injured. I would gently clean hi's wounds with warm water and antiseptic soap. To keep him from licking at it, you can put an Ecollar on him. You can get one at a pet store or make one at home. Keep the wound clean and dry, and monitor it for signs of infection. If you see redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, or pus, then it is infected and he will need to see the vet for antibiotics to treat it.

It looks as if your dog has a skin infection. These are usually caused by allergies and/or fleas. Their skin becomes itchy and the more your dog scratched and chews at the skin the more infected it will become. You will need to treat the infection (usually with antibiotics) and treat the itch. Common medications to help with itch include Cytopoint, Apoquel and steroids. I am not familiar with the medication albomine so I can’t help you with that. Hello. Bruno probably has a skin infection, possible from the Staph bacteria on his skin. This is all because he has allergies, either from fleas, atopy ( inhalant allergens ), or food allergies. He may also have sarcoptic or demodex mites present or even a yeast infection. I would recommend seeing your vet who can test for various triggers to his itching, licking & biting & recommend what products will work best for you & Bruno. They look very inflamed and uncomfortable but I do not see any pus or indication of infection on the photos. I would recommend a full physical by your vet to try and determine the underlying trigger - allergies to fleas, food or mites are all possible and treatment is different for each type.

Hello. It appears that Bruno has a pretty significant & chronic inflammatory reaction going on in his skin. I would suspect that this may require oral medications rather than topical ointments or creams, but knowing how long this might take to clear up really depends on the underlying cause. If he has a bacterial infection, treatment can last 6-8 weeks, a fungal infection, 2-4 months, & if this is due to an allergic reaction, unless you pursue a desensitization protocol, treatment is lifelong. It is best to have your veterinarian examine Bruno to determine the best course of action. If your vet is unable to help, ask for a referral to a veterinary dermatologist. This looks like a skin rash and possible skin infection due to the yellow crusting. It doesn't appear life threatening if this is just a skin rash as suspected. Skin rashes are often caused by allergies, trauma to the skin and fleas. I would recommend scheduling an appt with your local veterinarian who can do some skin testing of the area to determine what kind of infection it is, so that the most effective treatment is recommended to take care of this.
