What's this oozing hole and bald spot on my outdoor cat's chest?

Poor guy. There are a lot of wildlife critters and probably a fair number of strays out and about, depending on your neighborhood. The swollen not to the touch area is likely an abscess (infected pocket caused by a puncture wound). You will need to see a vet to have this abscess drained and then have him placed on a short course of antibiotics to help this heal properly. I would consider keeping him indoors more often and fixed if he isn’t already, because intact males typically get into more fights and sustain more injuries. Best of luck with your cat. Take care.

That looks like a bad bite and needs to be seen by a vet right away. Cats that go outside are more likely to get into fights with other cats, and these wounds can easily become infected. Your vet can clean and drain the wound, and provide antibiotics, pain meds and other treatments as needed.

Poor Church! It sounds like he is developing abscesses from some sort of trauma. We see this most commonly from cat bite or fight wounds. Usually these wounds heal best when treated by a veterinarian. We generally clean and flush out the purulent material and then start an antibiotic for 7-10 days. One concern I have remind cat owners about fight wounds in cats is that this is how feline leukemia and immunodeficiency viruses are spread from one cat to the next. I recommend testing your kitty and then trying to work on ways to keep Church indoors and less likely to be injured.

This is a draining abscess. Please clean the area with a warm damp cloth until the discharge is gone. Then you can apply a thin film of antibacterial ointment on it. If he’s not neutered I recommend getting him fixed so he doesn’t get into fights. If he’s sick then he probably has a fever from the infection and should have a veterinary exam and antibiotics. It sounds like Boots has an abscess from the bite wound. He needs to be examined by a vet for treatment. The abscess may need to be cleaned and flushed and then your vet can prescribe an antibiotic to treat the infection.

Hi. It appears to be a mass that is oozing near that nipple area. This could be an infection or an actual mass. We get concerned with older female pets who have masses on the mammary glands. They can get benign masses, but they can get cancer as well. I'd get her right away to have it checked and sampled asap

If he will let you I would try clipping the hair with clippers (not scissors or a razor) and clean the area with mild soap and water. If there is no open wound or any discharge you can continue to monitor the area. If it's open, oozing, or doesn't heal in 2 days, I would recommend seeing a vet for antibiotics.
