My cat got onion/garlic dip on fur. Is it dangerous if he licks it?

Updated on September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 9.4 lbs

Hello, I spilled some dip mix onto my cat and I was wondering if I need to worry. Some of the ingredients in the dip mix included onion, onion powder, and garlic, which I read can be harmful to cats. After I spilled it on him, I brushed off as much as I could, but I'm still worried some may have gotten under his fur as he is a long haired cat. I'm worried that he may ingest a small portion when he licks himself. It was a little over an hour ago. He seems fine for now, but Im worried. Thank you!

Doug will likely be fine. If you want to be extra cautious you can try wiping T off with something like a wet wipe or baby wipe or even if he's a nice cat giving him a quick bath. But that is unlikely to cause him any harm.
