My cat got oil on her back. When should I take her to the vet?

Unless the oily substance was a toxin and absorb through the skin it is likely nothing that would cause the vomiting. It is more likely that she ingested something while she was outside that caused gastrointestinal upset. There is always the chance that she may have eaten foreign material which could be causing the problem. If she only vomited the one time and is her normal self I would not worry too much and just monitor her for now. If she continues to vomit, becomes lethargic or does not want to eat her food then I would recommend taking her into a Veterinary Clinic to be examined and to have further testing performed such as blood work and x-rays. You should definitely keep an eye on the area to make sure that it does not begin having discharge, increased redness, or crusting. Try to dry her off further to see if that helps with the twitching. Keep her as quiet and comfortable as possible. If the solution you used was a dish soap (such as Dawn here in the US), she should be fine until you can get to her again. It may cause mild GI upset if she grooms it or mild skin irritation. If you notice redness, sores, or hives, then she may need to be seen by a veterinarian. Good luck!

If her behaviour s abnormal she should be assessed by an emergency vet to rule out poisoning from toxic subtances which may have been in the oil. She will also need to be decontaminated, washing with cool detergent may help but in severe cases clipping may be the fastest and safest option, especially if she is disorentaed and may drink or swallow water, Try to prevent her licking or grooming herself until you have haer assessed as swallowing the ol may be dangerous to her

It sounds as if Meeko has gotten into something, potentially amsomething toxic that is making her act abnormally. First, I would recommend bathing her to try and remove whatever oilynsubstance she has gotten on her coat. If it is something toxic and she tries to lick it off it could make her sicker. Continue to try to feed her and keep her as comfortable as possible. If she is still not eating after 48 hours you may want to consider taking her to the vet. If Meeko starts acting even more abnormally, starts vomiting and/or having diarrhea or if she has seizures (a common side effect of some toxins) then she will need to be see by your vet. Hi and thanks for your request regarding Rosie's problem. If the skin has not been damaged then there should not be the need of any check up as the fur will eventually grow back. Some pics will help to determine whether any damage to the skin is present.
