My cat isn't peeing and seems in pain. Is this a medical emergency?

Poor Tickle! If she is unable to pee, this is a medical emergency. It could be she is suffering from a urinary tract obstruction. Typically this occurs most often in male cats, but it can happen in female cats and signs include an inability to pee, severe pain (which she showed by panting), and vomiting. She needs veterinary care, as if she does have a urinary blockage, it is fatal without treatment. Please take her into a vet immediately.

Poor Max! It's very concerning that he is crying when urinating, and I would check him to see if he is straining while urinating and if no urine is coming out. Crying when urinating can indicate a blockage by bladder stones, and the other symptoms seen are straining and producing no urine. A blockage is a medical emergency which is fatal without treatment, and if he straining and producing no urine, you have to get him into a vet right away. There will be a vet on call in your area for emergencies, and the information to reach that vet will be on their answering machine or website. I would find a vet on call to have him seen now, if he is blocked it absolutely cannot wait until the morning.

If he is blocked, he cannot wait until tomorrow. A urinary blockage is a veterinary emergency and requires immediate treatment. Left untreated, toxins will build up in his blood threatening his life. Do whatever you can to have Precious examined and unblocked tonight. Go to the nearest veterinary ER. There is nothing you can do at home to help him.

If Scout is straining to urinate and not producing any urine she needs to be seen by a veterinarian immediately. A stone could be blocking her bladder and causing an obstruction which can prove deadly. While some stones are caused by infections and they resolve with antibiotics and a diet change once they have any signs of a bladder obstruction surgery is necessary as soon as possible.

This is an emergency. You need to take Tommy to a pet ER right away. He may have seizures and if he cannot pee he may have a urinary blockage. This would be life-threatening. Please take him to a pet ER now.

You need to have her looked at. Most likely she has a urinary tract infection. But she could also be having problems with her kidneys. If she is only dribbling and seems very uncomfortable there could be something making it so she can’t urinate. That is an emergency situation. My advice is to have her seen.

Have Moose examined tonight by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER. A cat that is not urinating or is unable to urinate should be considered a veterinary emergency. An exam and testing may diagnose another urinary tract infection or a urinary obstruction. Blood work can be submitted to assess major organ function, especially kidney function.
