Cat won't eat or drink after enema for constipation. Any home tips?

Hello.. I can suggest some possible remedies, but they may not work & his constipation will get much worse while you wait. Honestly, the best thing to do is to have Lucky seen as soon as possible. As he continues like this, he will get sicker. If he is eating, you can try 1/4 teaspoon in some wet food 2-3 times a day, but if he has stopped eating, there is no way for you to treat him at home. He likely hasn't eaten enough to produce enough stool yet. If he isn't straining to defecate and he seems to be acting normally I would not be too concerned about that just yet. That being said, constipation can be caused by dehydration. If you are seriously worried about him being dehydrated you cannot force him to drink so my suggestion would be to take him to your vet so they can give him some fluids under the skin of neck so his body can absorb them (this is called subcutaneous fluids). I think you are doing fine by feeding the canned food and adding the water. You can try adding a bit more and maybe just a very tiny pinch of salt to see if that will cause him to drink a bit more. I also suggest you feed him a probiotic. That will help with digestion and overall health. My favorite is Fortiflora. You can buy it over the counter or online. If you can't find it or get it then you can use any probiotic but make sure it is made for cats (not humans and no dairy). Hope this answers your questions. Hello, sorry to hear about CJ. If she is straining to defecate then she may just be constipated and thats unlikely make you lose her over night. Continue to offer her water and pedialyte if you have any. You don't need to give her any pumpkin still, but you can give her 1/4 teaspoon if miralax once if she is straining to defecate. If she is not straining to defecate, then she could have something else going on with her and she should wait to see her veterinarian tomorrow or sooner if you're able to find a ride. It’s definitely concerning that Sarisin still has not defecated and is not eating despite treatment. I am wondering if any diagnostics have been performed - constipation can be secondary to ingestion of a foreign object or kidney disease. Blood work and x-rays might help determine why the current treatments aren’t working. I would definitely check in with your vet before giving an enema - not all enemas are safe for cats, and even a water enema can be difficult to administer. Hope your kitty is feeling better soon!

Enemas can definitely be uncomfortable and may cause Sanoe to be a bit out of sorts/have a sore GI tract for a while. You can try a bland meal of some boiled chicken warmed up (or if she was given a prescription food to eat, that moistened or warmed up) as smell usually entices a cat to eat, and moistening the food can help increase water intake without having to drink as much. If she doesn't start eating, or return to more normal behavior after a day, or she seems to be worsening, letting your vet know and bringing her back in for a recheck is best.

Poor Baby! If you are not comfortable giving the enema, I recommend to call your veterinarian and discuss your concerns. At this point, she may need more care than an enema. She may need fluids or a sedated enema. I also recommend to discuss a specific food made by Royal Canin called Fiber Response. It is formulated for cats with constipation and many cats will get relief within a few days. This diet baby needed lifelong. If your cat has mild constipation but is still pooping, I would consider a product like laxatone. It is labeled as a hairball remedy and is a flavored petroleum. You can put it on the food or on your cats foot and he will lick it off when he grooms. If, however, your cat hasn't pooped in days, he needs to see the vet for an exam and more intensive treatment.
