My cat has a small, non-healing wound near her eye. What is it?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 6.8 lbs

My cat has a small wound under the corner of her eye, along towards her nose. It never bleeds or seems to cause her pain (no flinching when washing, and eyes fully open,) but it seems to have lasted longer than similar spots usually do. What could it be? (Eyes are closed in attached photos because she is asleep.)

This looks very sore and inflammed. It could be an infection or a tumor also. I recommend a veterinary exam, some cytology of the area to check for bacteria and abnormal cells. They then will probably give oral antibiotics and may recommend using a cone to prevent her rubbing this area which could slow down the healing. Hi. This is a pretty severe lesion. I would recommend going straight to opthomologist. It is hard to say the cause for sure based on this photo unfortunately. It could be an injury, an infection, a rupture, or many other possibilities. Great question. It does look like a specialist should get involved right away.

It seems like a small trauma, possibly a superficial skin wound.From the pic I cannot understand if it could be a lump/growth or not.
If it is just a skin wound, it is certainly really a minor injury and it should not require any special care. Just monitor for any further swelling, and keep the are clean with water.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. It appears Precious may have sustained an abscess, probably from a fight with another cat. The abscess ruptured, & Precious has been licking the area to keep it clean. Her sandpaper tongue can actually cause more trauma to the area. You can clean the area with a little warm water & a disinfectant such as Betadine, & you may need to put an elizabethean collar on her to stop the licking. These type wounds do not always need antibiotics, but it would not be a bad idea to let your vet have a look at it just to make sure . Hope she well very soon.

My cat has a red sore on her neck, not bleeding. Should I worry?

However, it is likely to represent an abscess or some type of traumatic injury or laceration. For both cases, it would be advised to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as both would require local wound management as well as antibiotics. If it is a laceration then stitches may also be recommended. I recommend that you Fiona evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment of this wound and to start her on the most appropriate therapy based on the findings. Good luck!

My cat's eye patch is worse after vet visit. What should I do?

Wow. That looks very sore! I am sorry that Skeeter is having this issue. The appearance of this lesion is very concerning. Many skin conditions can look the same visually so I cannot say exactly what is going on but my first thoughts are that this is either a tumor (cancer) or an eosinophilic plaque. It could also be caused by skin parasites (like mites). Did your vet do any testing on that lesion? I am afraid some more work up is going to be necessary to figure out what is going on and how to treat it. I highly doubt that some antibiotics alone will clear this up. It is not a wound, something else is definitely happening. My cat has an open wound near its eye. Is it serious? When to see a vet?

Tinkerbell's eye lid does appear to have some sort of tear or ulceration. This could be related to trauma or a viral infection. Tears on the eyelid should be care for quickly. I recommend to have Tinkerbell examined by his veterinarian within the next day. Make sure to protect the area from rubbing by having him wear an elizabethan collar at all times. Hi, and thanks for your question. That is likely to be due to a moderate conjunctivitis, probably secondary to a infection. A check up would be needed as appropriate treatment would include antibiotics and anti-inflammatory eye drops. Corneal injuries must be ruled out as well. My cat has a sore or scratch on her nose. Should I be worried?

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! This is possibly an infection. However, this is a somewhat common location for a tumor in cats as well. I still think that a focal infection or traumatic lesion is more likely. You can use a topical medication like Douxo 3% PS pads which you may find online. You can apply this to the affected area twice daily for 2 weeks. If this does not resolve or appears to be progressing, have Lovey evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Why won't my cat's nose wound heal and keeps bleeding for months?

Thank you for including the picture, it is helpful. I had a situation in a patient like Bongo that I found a tooth in (likely from a fight with another cat). But an object festering could be the cause of a non-healing wound. Also there is the potential of a growth. Less likely because he is so young, but still possible. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by a veterinarian soon. It is small enough that they may just recommend removing it all together and sending it out for a biopsy.
