Will neutering my male cat change his loving, lap cat personality?

Both male and female are loving cats and neither is better than the other as a pet. You should, however, have the cat neutered, ie a tomcat should be castrated to keep him from roaming and getting into fights. Also it will stop him from having stinky urine and spraying. A female cat should be spayed in order to keep her from having kittens twice or three times a year. The cat's character will not be changed, other than it being more settled and not roaming.

Castrating a male cat will decrease the tendency to roam, fight and spray his urine. By decreasing these behaviors, there is a decrease in these castrated cats to get abscesses, Feline Leukemia viral infections, Feline Immunodeficiency viral infections and they are less likely to be hit by cars or attacked by other animals as they are staying closer to home. The males typically stop spraying which most pet owners appreciate. Most males will also stop having sex but some may still exhibit the behavior. Hi. Yes, neutering will help Toby want to stay home more and hopefully make him less likely to fight. It can take a couple of months after the surgery for his testosterone levels to completely drop but neutering typically does resolve a lot of male to male aggression in cats.

Frankly, getting them neutered will make all of you much happier. They won't worry about getting out and trying to find a mate, they will be calmer and more content and won't keep you awake all the time with their attempts to escape. It also reduces the scent of the litterbox, as the testosterone contributes to the strong odor of male cat urine, and they will be healthier for being calmer and quieter. It will not harm their personality or make them lazy and fat.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Grey. Only female cats will come into heat so this would not be the case if you are sure he is a male. He could be reacting to unspayed female cats in the neighborhood though who are in heat. This can result in the symptoms you have described. Neutering him will help if this is the case. Neutering male cats is one of the most effective ways of limiting inter-cat aggression. There are no guarantees, but castration is definitely the first and best thing worth trying. If you are worried about the two cats hurting one another, I would keep them separated for the time being. Even after the castration there will still be some residual hormones left in the body for a short while. I would consider keeping the two separated for at least a week or two post-operatively before reintroduction. Hope this makes sense.
