Is a male or female cat better? Does neutering change personality?

If this is a male cat getting neutered (not sure if that is what you mean, or if in the UK they call both procedures being spayed) then it should not cause him to be any less loving. In most cases it will help calm and settle a male cat who otherwise as he matures would be more likely to want to roam or be aggressive.

Frankly, getting them neutered will make all of you much happier. They won't worry about getting out and trying to find a mate, they will be calmer and more content and won't keep you awake all the time with their attempts to escape. It also reduces the scent of the litterbox, as the testosterone contributes to the strong odor of male cat urine, and they will be healthier for being calmer and quieter. It will not harm their personality or make them lazy and fat.

Hello, congratulations on your new kitten. Yes male cats do spray when they are intact as a territorial behavior. To get them to stop you do have to neuter them as this behavior is driven through hormones. In terms of litter box training, they should be very similar and you should be able to train your male kitten to use the litter box regularly. Aggression is not really driven by sex, and both males and females can be equally as aggressive. Having him castrated (spaying is term for female animal but I know what you mean), is generally considered a safe and routine procedure although any procedure carries risks. Castrating a male cat will decrease the tendency to roam, fight and spray his urine. By decreasing these behaviors, there is a decrease in these castrated cats to get abscesses, Feline Leukemia viral infections, Feline Immunodeficiency viral infections and they are less likely to be hit by cars or attacked by other animals as they are staying closer to home. The males typically stop spraying which most pet owners appreciate. Most males will also stop having sex but some may still exhibit the behavior. Hello and thank you for your post! In regards to neutering, we typically see changes in aggression and marking. The aggression towards other animals or humans many times will lessen. Marking behavior will sometimes lessen after a neuter but not in every case.

How lovely of you to bring him Cactus! Even though he's not showing behavioral signs now, it doesn't mean that he won't start spraying to mark his territory and want to go outside to roam. Also intact male cats tend to be poor groomers, causing them to become matted and scruffy-looking. On the other hand, neutered male cats tend to pay more attention to themselves and keep themselves clean. I think having him neutered would be a good idea. Best of luck.
