Why is my cat twitching his mouth with bad breath and lumpy teeth?

Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. From the pictures you provided, Popcorn's teeth on that side do not look that diseased. There may be an infected tooth somewhere in the mouth that is causing the odor. I would recommend having a veterinarian examine him so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. He may be in need of a dental cleaning under anesthesia to help determine what the cause of the bad breath could be. There may just be bacteria in the mouth, not necessarily an infection. If he he has pain he should be seen by a vet to rule out damaged teeth or a broken jaw which requires repair or extraction - brushing will not solve this. I would also recommend using a pet toothpaste or dental hygiene gel as these are more effective and also better accepted as they are flavoured.

I would say from your pictures that Jax's gum is quite swollen and I imagine it's very painful to him. It could be that his tooth has broken off and is rotten causing the swelling and bad breath. It could also be he has a tooth root abscess. This is definitely something that needs to be treated sooner rather than later, so please call your vet to get him an appointment asap to have this treated. I would soak his dry food in warm water or gently warmed chicken broth to make his food softer to eat, or you can give him canned food for now. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Hi. It sounds like Oliver has some severe dental disease. He most likely has gingivitis and possibly a painful, loose, or resorptive lesions on some teeth. Dental disease in cats can cause pain and discomfort.  This could impact quality of life. In some cases, the dental disease can cause a cat to stop eating. For dental disease, besides brushing teeth with pet toothpaste daily,  your veterinarian will recommend removing plaque and mineral buildup by scaling and polishing the teeth. Teeth will try to be saved wherever possible. In extreme cases, extraction of teeth might be needed.  Unfortunately a veterinarian will need to be involved. He may have an ulcer or sore in his mouth or on his tongue that is painful and burning. They often do not want their mouth opened or touched when that occurs. It creates an infection and the odor occurs and gets worse. I would schedule an appointment with your vet to have his mouth and teeth examined to see if there are any wounds or damaged teeth causing this in order to get proper medication

Hi and thanks for your request. These signs could be due to severe gum inflammation and even infections, with abscesses building up on the dental roots (so sometimes not completely visible. These signs are quite concerning and another check up would be needed as antibiotics may be best given. Multiple dental extractions and cleaning are recommended in these cases. Without feeling the masses and seeing the content of them I cannot really guess whether they are tumors or cysts. Your kitty also has an upper respiratory problem, which needs to be investigated. This could be caused by a polyp, a bacterial infection or a virus or a foreign body such as a grass blade or similar in the upper respiratory tract. The broken canine also may cause him pain, even if he appears not to be suffering. I suggest you take your lovely Tiger to a vet for an exam where all these problems can be addressed.
