My cat's back milk sacks feel warm. Is this an infection symptom?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 lbs

Ok so I previously asked about shadow and her back milk sacks well she rolled over and wanted me to rub her belly and to me those back to feel really warm is that sounding more like an infection?

Warmth in a particular region could certainly indicate an infection. If shadow is currently lactating, those areas come become warm normally. If she has a systemic infection currently occurring, you can consider taking her temperature to see if it is elevated (check for over 102.5-103.0 as a reference range). You can apply some pressure to the area too to see if it appears to be sensitive or in any pain. Check for any discharge in or around the area. Warmth can also occur from sitting in a position for an extremely extended period of time. Hope this helps. If there is an infection, an antibiotic or antimicrobial drug will be required to do away with the cause.

If there was an infection in the area that had some resultant inflammation, heat that originated in the area may take a while to completely go away. As long as the itchiness has resolved and the area itself is looking better, I would be optimistic that you are heading in the correct direction. However, if the symptoms head in the wrong direction or their is a recurrence, you should consider obtaining systemic antibiotics to combat a bacterial infection on the skin's surface. My kitten's tummy feels hot, but she's acting normal. Is it okay?

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Animals will often feel warm on certain parts of their body but that does not indicate there is a fever. If she was so warm to have a fever she would be acting sick (lethargic, not eating, not playing, etc). I personally would not be worried about this at all. Don't give her a cold bath. At this age kittens cannot thermoregulate well and you will give her a chill which will be the opposite problem (and worse in my opinion). My best recommendation is to monitor her for any signs of illness - if you notice any then take her to the vet for a check-up. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

My cat's teat is swollen and painful after birth. Is it mastitis?

Your baby may be suffering from mastitis (inflammation of the mammary gland). This is very painful and you really need to take her to the vet for an exam. and pain medicine and antibiotics if called for. In the meantime you can put warm moist compresses on the teat. This should relieve some of the pain temporarily.

My cat's back nipples are swollen and squishy. Should I be concerned?

It is possible that there is just a fat pad under the nipples in that region, and that is why the skin is hanging down low. I recommend monitoring it for now, and having your vet take a look the next time you are in. If it becomes uncomfortable, has discharge, becomes swollen, red, hot, or cold, then have it seen right away. It is likely just a fat pad that sits in that region. Best of luck with Shay.

Hi. It appears to be a mass that is oozing near that nipple area. This could be an infection or an actual mass. We get concerned with older female pets who have masses on the mammary glands. They can get benign masses, but they can get cancer as well. I'd get her right away to have it checked and sampled asap

What's wrong with a stray cat's lumpy stomach and dark nipples?

Hello, it looks like the cat may be currently nursing. Other causes for enlarged mammary glands include benign mammary hyperplasia. It she is not nursing, then you can expect the mammary glands to decrease in size over the next 3-5 days. If this does not occur, then she should be evaluated by a veterinarian. Hope this helps
