My spayed cat's belly is warm but body cool. Is this normal?

Warmth in a particular region could certainly indicate an infection. If shadow is currently lactating, those areas come become warm normally. If she has a systemic infection currently occurring, you can consider taking her temperature to see if it is elevated (check for over 102.5-103.0 as a reference range). You can apply some pressure to the area too to see if it appears to be sensitive or in any pain. Check for any discharge in or around the area. Warmth can also occur from sitting in a position for an extremely extended period of time. Hope this helps. Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach. Animals will often feel warm on certain parts of their body but that does not indicate there is a fever. If she was so warm to have a fever she would be acting sick (lethargic, not eating, not playing, etc). I personally would not be worried about this at all. Don't give her a cold bath. At this age kittens cannot thermoregulate well and you will give her a chill which will be the opposite problem (and worse in my opinion). My best recommendation is to monitor her for any signs of illness - if you notice any then take her to the vet for a check-up. Hope this helps. Best wishes.

Hi, the incision seems absolutely fine. However what you describe in terms of demeanour and behaviour is not expected after a few days. It could be that Kit cat has a temperature or that she is still in pain. I would recommend to have her checked over to exclude any potential post op concerns such as internal wound breakdown or an internal infection. If all is well, she could have some symptomatical treatment for pain and or/temperature.

Hi there. It is common for females that are spayed to gain extra fat in their abdominal region. If the belly is very hard or she seems uncomfortable I would take her in. Otherwise just remember she doesn't have the extra hormone production she used to-changes are normal. Hope this helps

She may be in pain and potentially feel nauseous after the surgery. I would call the veterinarian that performed the surgery (if they are still open) to have them re-evaluate her. If they are closed and she is not doing well you can take her to another veterinarian that is open. She may not be drinking much if she is eating wet food. Unfortunately the only reliable way to measure the temperature remains intrarectally with a thermometer. If she is otherwise fine and not showing any sign at all, I would not be worried about her. The humping of the leg is a behavioral issue, this behavior can sometimes be affected by being spayed in females, but not always. as she is already 4 years old, the nipples are likely to stay prominent, maybe the size will reduce slightly with time but it may also remain the same as it is today.
