My cat meows, cries, kicks legs, and lifts his butt. Is he in pain?

It may be that he is painful or not feeling well and that's leading to him reacting in this way. Ideally, take him to your vet for an exam. However, if he is eating/drinking/acting normally it is reasonable to just keep a close eye on him and take him in if other symptoms develop. Make sure that his litter box habits are normal. (he is urinating and defecating normally). Please do not give him any over the counter pain medications as there are none available that are safe for cats. Poor Guy! He certainly could be in pain or not feeling well. I would have your vet take a look at him. Your vet will be able to see if he has a fever, pain anywhere, and even run blood work if needed. A lot of outdoor cats will get into things they shouldnt and also can get into fights with other cats or animals and develop abscesses that can be difficult for you to see. I hope this helps and he starts feeling better.

Is he a young cat? If so he may be looking for something to do such as hunting. If he is an older cat then I would be worried about possible hyperthyroidism or diabetes. You may want to consider different toys or tall cat trees that allow him to watch birds out of the window. It is pssibel she is displaying signs of being in heat - I recommend you video the episodes and show them to your vet for analysis. If not, a pelvic xray during an episode would be advised in order to identify a source of the pain or any evidence of constipation, anal gland disease or other anomalies

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Penguin! His symptoms are strange and possibly indicate pain. My biggest concern would be if he is having trouble urinating. Check his litter box and see if there is urine present. If there is no urine (and that is unusual) or if there are small drips of urine then I would take him to the Vet. If he gets up follow him to see what he does. Check the house for vomit and be sure he is eating. Any excessive grooming of his penis may also indicate a urinary problem. I recommend to video tape the behavior and then have Snow Minue examined by the veterinarian. This could be related to pain or breeding behavior. If Snow Minue has not been spayed or neutered, this needs to be done. Also, he needs vaccinations because he is not protected against basic diseases. Since he can't talk and tell you if he is in pain or has any problems, he needs to be examined. Show the doctor the video and make sure to keep him indoors. I hope this helps.

Vomiting and increased vocalizations can sometimes indicate pain or distress. This could be due to GI upset, underlying illness, etc. If the symptoms continue, worsen, or you see additional issues such as increased vomiting, attempting to urinate or defecate but can't, loss of appetite, etc, then it would be best to seek veterinary care ASAP to find the underlying issue.
