Why is my cat meowing loudly, shaking, and drooling after UTI meds?

Hello. The shivers could be from his body fighting the infection, & the drooling is either a reaction to his medication or nausea. How is his appetite? Is he eating & does he seem to feel better overall? If not, I would take him back to see the vet, but if he does seem to be improving by eating & drinking fairly well, then you can give the antibiotics a little more time. Loss of appetite can be observed with many conditions such as gastroenteritis, dietary indiscretion, kidney disease, pancreatitis, among many other possibilities. I am more concerned about the fact that she is not eating well and that needs to be further addressed as it is unlikely to be due to a urinary tract infection. I recommend that you have Luchadora reevaluated by your veterinarian on Saturday for further assessment and treatment. Keep in mind that if she is not feeling well, they may not proceed with vaccines that day. You may take in a urine sample that day. The mouth problem is not related to the urinary infection and it's not likely to be related to the antibiotic shot either, you should take her back to your vet to get it checked and treated, she might be suffering from gum inflammation.

It sounds like Mary may be in distress. Since she can't talk and tell you what is going on, I recommend to have her examined by the veterinarian today. she could be painful somewhere in her body including something like painful anal glands or a bladder infection. I hope this helps.

I would be worried that your cat is actually starting to experience the signs of a urinary blockage, and needs to have a urinary catheter placed in order to allow him to urinate normally until the inflammation and swelling associated with the urethra goes down. Please return to the vet where you took him; urinary blockage is life-threatening and medications alone frequently do not correct the problem.

While it is possible that a UTI has recurred (or never fully resolved the first time), Misty's vocalization every few weeks sounds more consistent with signs of being in heat. If Misty has not yet been spayed, recurrent vocalization (particularly through the spring/early summer) is likely to continue. However, if Misty has been spayed, I recommend taking her back to the vet because she may need further urine testing and a different antibiotic if a UTI is still present. If all medical reasons for vocalization have been ruled out, a behavioral cause is more suspected. For some cats, calming pheromone collars or diffusers (Feliway is one brand) can be helpful. I wonder if maybe she has neurologic damage or did not heal after the panleukopenia. I would talk to your vet about blood work, a neurologic exam, and maybe referral to a specialist in internal medicine or neurology to determine what could be causing the shaking and loss of balance. Increased respiratory rate or changes in breathing sounds could indicate an upper respiratory infection, a nasal polyp, or possible scar tissue from previous infection.
