My cat has a maggot under its skin. How can I remove it naturally?

Maggots are usually very clearly seen when you look at the wound, it also smells extremely bad. this looks like an abscess, i don't know if she has been seen by a vet or not, if not then you need to take her to the vet ASAP, she will need antibiotic treatment.

This may be a cuterebra. A cuterebra is basically a maggot that has burned into the skin, and the hole is so the maggot can breath. You need to take your cat into a vet asap to get this removed. I hope this helps!

It would be best to take your kitty to a veterinarian to have them remove the rest of the maggots. The vet can then also check inside the vagina and retrieve any maggots. As your kitty was not spayed there is a possibility that she has a uterine infection which enticed the flies to lay eggs on her genital area. If you keep finding maggots there is a relatively large infestation, You should shave the hair around the wound and wash it well with disinfectant removing all the maggots. If you cannot do that you will need to take your cat to your veterinarian for a clip, clean, disinfect, and exam. Maggots can kill your cat. Neither you nor your dog will get maggots unless you have the respective blue bottle or similar flies in your house and a wound into which the flies can lay their eggs

Just wanted to add that you can use Capstar (a flea tablet that is available over the counter) to kill maggots very effectively in cats - so this is something that you could try as well. Just give the tablet by mouth, and the maggots will die within 30 minutes to an hour in most cases.

I suspect your cat may have tapeworms. The body segments of the worm contain the eggs and are passed in the feces. Fresh, moist segments are about 1/4 in long and capable of moving. Once dried, they resemble grains of rice or sesame seeds. Tapeworm segments can sometimes be found crawling in the fur around the anus of an infected cat. Treatment for tapeworms is a drug called praziquantal, which is available through your veterinarian. I suggest that you take your cat and a fresh fecal sample to your veterinarian for confirmation that your cat does indeed have tapeworms and not fly strike (maggots) which would be a much more serious condition.

I'm so sorry to hear that! I am very concerned that the tissue under the skin (connective tissue, muscle, etc) is becoming "necrotic" meaning that tissue is dying. I am also concerned there may still be a maggot issue, as the area is spreading (you said there is a new wound forming). She needs to be evaluated by a vet, and it will probably be necessary to have surgery to debride (cut away/remove) the unhealthy tissue. She will need antibiotics as well. Please take her to a vet who can care for her. Unfortunately there really is not a home solution that is going to be effective.
