My cat has moving worms near its rear. Is it tapeworms or maggots?

It could be Pants has intestinal worms such as tapeworms. You will need to take him into the vet to get this diagnosed and to get medication, as tapeworms require praziquantel to treat, which is prescription only from the vet. Best of luck.

These are little segments of tapeworm, I would recommend getting your cat wormed asap. Milbemax or broadline works well. Treating for fleas would be useful as they are part of the tapeworm life cycle.

Hi, thanks for using PetCoach! If you are finding white rice sized segments around Katniss's tail then I suspect you are seeing tape worm segments. Cats get tape worm from fleas and from hunting. You can always post a picture to confirm. I would deworm her with a product that gets tapeworm. They look like tapeworm segments so she should be dewormed for tapeworms. She should also be treated for fleas as animals get tapeworms from ingesting fleas. Your vet should be able to prescribe a dewormer to treat.

These are tape worm proglottids, ie the tape worm's egg containers. Tape worm is spread by fleas. These tape worms are not contagious to people. You will need to get a cat wormer that contains Praziquantel. This will kill the tape worm. You should also do some flea prevention to prevent further infection with tapeworm.
