My cat has a grape-sized lump under skin on shoulder. Should I worry?

It's hard to tell the size but it looks like it may be a benign wart or growth. It appears to be more on the surface of the skin which is good, and it is well defined. Cats do get malignant skin growths so it is a good idea to have your veterinarian examine it and feel underneath also. They can easily remove this if necessary and do a biopsy. Hello there! A small lump or bubble under the skin that is not painful is probably nothing to be concerned about, but it should still be looked at by a vet at some point - especially if it gets larger, changes color, or if Tater starts scratching or bothering it. At his young age, I'm not terribly concerned about anything serious - a bug bite, foreign object, or a sebaceous cyst could be the culprit. Also, if he's had his vaccinations recently (within the last few weeks), this could also be a local vaccine reaction (which is also usually nothing to worry about and generally resolves in a month or so). The shoulder region is a common injection location. If anything changes or gets worse, a vet visit is in order. Otherwise, it's probably fine to keep an eye on it. Hello there and thank you for posting your question and picture. From the picture, it appears to be a benign skin mass that usually develop in older pets. These typically have this appearance and sometimes will not change in size or will increase in size. Most of these do not bother the animal and can be monitored. Hello, thank you for your question about Milo. Based on the photo that you have attached it is possible that this lesion could be due to a cyst, abscess, or mass. A cyst is a benign fluid filled structure that can develop in various locations on animal's bodies. An abscess is an encapsulated infection that is most commonly associated with some kind of trauma, but can occur for an unknown reason. Masses, tend to feel more firm/solid and can be caused by many different types of cancers (benign or malignant). I would recommend having Milo evaluated by your veterinarian so that they can examine the lesion. They may recommend collecting an aspirate, or small needle, sample from the lesion to help determine exactly what it is. They can then discuss further treatment options based on these findings. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Tummy! Possible causes for a lump are: an abscess, a skin mass, or an internal mass in his belly. If Tummy has lost weight or is having any other change either behaviorally or appetite wise I recommend having him evaluated by your Vet. If the mass and in the skin (not the belly), is soft it is likely an abscess or a cyst. Sine this is a new finding I recommend having him seen by your Vet to be safe. It may just be a sebaceous cyst (a collection of oily debts under the skin) or a small area of inflammation from another cause. If its not painful and he isn't licking at it, I recommend that you make point once a week to measure it at home. If its changing in size over a couple of months or if it becomes bothersome, have it checked out at your vet. If your cat is too upset for a thorough exam, a little sedation may be recommended by your vet so that he/she can see what it is that you're seeing and make the appropriate recommendations. The pink raised mass in the picture appears to be a wart. I would not be concerned about this unless it grows or changes in color. The lump you feel could range from a cyst to a cancerous growth. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for an aspirate. This is where they can take cells from the mass and look at it with microscope
