What is this firm brown lump on my cat's face? Should I worry?

This may be an abscess, a cyst or a tumor. You should have it examined by your veterinarian, as it is not possible to distinguish these by just looking at a photo. An abscess can usually be treated with antibiotics and/or be lanced, and a cyst can be evacuated. To identify a tumor, your vet may want to do a fine needle aspirate (he takes some material from the bump with a needle and then looks at it under the microscope) to determine whether the mass is concerning.

The pink raised mass in the picture appears to be a wart. I would not be concerned about this unless it grows or changes in color. The lump you feel could range from a cyst to a cancerous growth. I would recommend taking her to a veterinarian for an aspirate. This is where they can take cells from the mass and look at it with microscope

It's hard to tell the size but it looks like it may be a benign wart or growth. It appears to be more on the surface of the skin which is good, and it is well defined. Cats do get malignant skin growths so it is a good idea to have your veterinarian examine it and feel underneath also. They can easily remove this if necessary and do a biopsy. These generally are find to just keep an eye on but if you would like it gone, I would recommend having a veterinarian examine the mass and discuss options for removal. It looks like a benign cyst to me but, of course, I cannot be 100% sure just by looking at a photo. Whenever you get a chance just take her to your vet so they can check it in person. Now that you know it is there keep an eye on it and if there are any drastic changes with it she should be examined by the vet sooner. Hope this helps. Best wishes!

Hello there and thank you for your post! Unfortunately, without pictures or seeing this mask for myself in person it is difficult to say what it could be. Seeing that Rascal is 10 years old he is considered geriatric. At geriatric ages, we can typically find skin masses that are many times benign and not cancerous. However, there is a chance that it could be a cancerous tumor but without further testing it is very difficult to say. I would recommend having a veterinarian exam in the slump to get a better idea of what it could be. The vet can insert a small needle into the lump and look at the cells under a microscope to help determine what the lump could be. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction.
