Why is my cat itchy with red sores, hair loss, and leg pain?

Smores seems like the area is bothering her. Many things can cause these bumps including allergies, external parasites or ringworm (which people can get). Make an appointment with her doctor to get her checked out. There are medications the doctor can give her to stop the itching as well as treat the underlying cause. If you have an elizabethan collar for her, go ahead and put it on her. The licking can make the lesions worse. Make sure that you are also using a reputable flea product. I recommend Revolution or Comfortis.

First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality flea treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). I would make sure the veterinarian scrapes the skin to check for parasites of the skin. This may also need an oral antibiotic in addition to topical therapy to see if it will respond. You can also try a different shampoo such as Douxo PS Chlorhexidine combination shampoo and bathe twice weekly. If there is no improvement and your vet is unable to resolve this, I would recommend a second opinion with a veterinary dermatologist if possible. I hope this helps! Poor guy. It sounds like Maxx either has allergic dermatitis (to something in the environment), skin mites, ringworm, or even an immune mediated skin disorder is possible. I would first have him examined by your vet for a few skin tests (Skin scrape to rule out mites, and consider a ringworm test if the lesions are circular and red). Then the vet can prescribe the appropriate treatment based on the findings of those tests. Typically as long as ringworm is not likely, cats respond well to steroids and antibiotics. You will need to take your kitty to a veterinarian for a skin exam. Summer could be suffering from an allergy, mites, fleas, a bacterial or fungal infection. Each of these requires a different treatment, so it is important to find out what is causing the itch. Your vet will do a thorough exam and maybe a a skin scrape. He will then discuss the options with you and then prescribe medications, possibly give an injection to stop the itching.

Poor kitty! It looks like your cat has a skin infection but there could be other issues as well. Sometimes allergies can actually cause those problems to come up. Virgil should be seen by his veterinarian so they can determine if medication is needed for these spots as well as how to avoid them coming back
