My cat has flea dirt after treatment. Is this normal or a problem?

Hi ! Can you still spot presence of fleas ? You should look for flea dirt more than adult fleas, tiny black dots that dissolve when put in contact with water on a white tissue . You can use a flea comb for this purpose and then wipe it on the wet tissue to see if there is any evidence of flea dirt. If you have established that there still are fleas, then it could be that when you applied the product it did not actually reach the skin surface. I would recommend to speak to your veterinarian with regards to an additional product to kill flea eggs and arrange an appointment perhaps with a technician to show you how to best administer this treatment, good luck and I hope everything goes well !

If you have a flea infestation in your house or yard it will be harder for the Revolution to be fully effective. Make sure you vacuum regularly, and treat the other pets in the household as well as the yard if that is practical. I use a flea comb dipped in soapy water to catch the fleas on Dexter. You’ll find that the fleas are slower than normal because they are dying. If you are consistent with your flea control in the house, other pets, and yard and use Revolution monthly as directed the fleas should all be gone in several weeks. I find the flea dirt takes a bit to go away completely. If you are treating the environment and the pet than you are doing the right things. It can take a few months for the life cycle of the flea to end. Keep up the good work and you will start to see progress soon

Cats don't get flea dips. I would suggest instead to give her a dawn dish detergent bath, that will strip the fleas off of her. Then wait until she is completely dry and applying Revolution topical flea preventative. You should also treat your home with a flea fogger to rid all the possible eggs and baby fleas that have hatched. Keep an eye on her stools also since cats often get tapeworms from ingesting fleas on their haircoat as they groom themselves. Fleas hatch from larvae and then still grow to adult size, so you are seeing fleas of different ages. Unfortunately fleas only hop on the body of your pet when they want to feed, then they hop off again and stay in your pet's environment. So you need to treat all pets in the household as well as the environment (which contains the fleas, their eggs and larvae). Flea treatment:  1) Get some flea medication such as a Flea spray or a spot on from a pet shop or your veterinarian and apply monthly 2) get flea powder, put some in your vacuum cleaner bag and vacuum your house and furniture and also non-carpeted areas frequently to remove flea larvae and eggs which live off house dust., Dispose of the bag in the trash outside. Hot-wash all the pet's bedding, If you do this diligently for a few months you will get rid of the fleas. Ticks will feed until engorged then drop off and lay eggs. Fleas will also hop off and lay eggs in the environment. You can check for flea dirt with a wet cotton ball. Rub some of the "dirt" on the wet cotton ball. If rust colored streaks appear, this is flea dirt. If not, it is likely ordinary dirt, grime, dead skin cells, etc. Fleas be treated using a topical or oral preventative. Discuss options with your veterinarian. You will need to treat for at least three consecutive months, preferably year round. Treat the environment as well. Vacuum everywhere Gab has been and discard the bag outdoors. Hello, thank you for using PetCoach. This looks like flea dirt. If you put "cat flea dirt" into a Google search you will see many photos that resemble this. I suggest you get her a GOOD flea prevention and treat your house and/or yard for fleas. You can bathe her if she will let you with Dawn dish soap. Use the dish soap sparingly as it is very concentrated. Be sure to rinse it off thoroughly. You should only need to bathe her once. Bathe her either 24 hour before OR after applying the topical flea medication. If you can't bathe her, don't worry too much about it. Once the medication kicks in and you treat the environment her clinical signs will resolve.
