My cat is limping and losing weight. What are the possible causes?

It could be that Mulan has injured herself, causing the limping and loss of appetite. It likely hurts her to have to go down stairs, which is why she won't go it. However, since Tommy has also lost a lot of weight and has been off his food I worry more about a cancerous process such as lymphoma, or perhaps a bone mass. These symptoms can also be signs of a systemic condition such as liver or kidney disease, pancreatitis, or diabetes. Based on the low walking/weakness you describe I would want to perform diabetic screening. I would recommend having Bramley seen by your veterinarian so that they can examine him and discuss performing additional diagnostics such as systemic bloodwork. I would recommend that you have Xavier examined by a vet. Limping can be caused by a sprain, a fracture, joint issues, etc. Cats are good at hiding pain, so if you see a limp you can know it is is painful. Also, sleeping more and not purring are often signs of pain. The vet will do an exam and maybe x-rays to determine the most appropriate treatment.
