Why does my cat lick her poop after using the litter box? Is it bad?

You may just monitor at this point. Eevee may end up with an upset stomach from eating feces and then again, she could be fine. You could feed her a diet of boiled white meat chicken and plain boiled white rice for the next 24 hrs if she will eat it (cats can be picky). As long as the cats are worm free, you don’t have to worry about anything being transmitted. Figure out who is pooping outside the box as this can be either behavioral or medical. Is this a new behavior? Is the stool firm and hard? If it is firm and hard then it may be from her being constipated. If it is soft and she has diarrhea, she can have intestinal parasites or she could have eaten something that upset her stomach. I would recommend having a stool sample performed to make sure there are no parasites and to see the consistency of the stool. If the veterinarian says everything is fine then I would use at least 2 litter boxes with clumping litter. Make sure you have a box on each level. Hi there. So glad Tisha is doing better! I would not be worried about the smell. I don't think it is harmful but understand it can be unpleasant for you! I recommend you get her a probiotic and feed that along with the diet for a couple of weeks. I am not sure what brands of probiotics you have available there but you need to find one that is made for cats (not humans) and definitely do not give her any dairy (like yogurt). If no change in the smell after trying the probiotics and it is really that unpleasant for you then I would suggest you change diets at that time. Hope this helps. Usually a probiotic would help diarrhea, however some probiotics and digestive enzyme supplements are more like treats with a lot of other ingredients that might cause stomach upset. As long as Kitty is eating and drinking normally with no vomiting I think it’s okay to wait 1-2 days for it to resolve. If the diarrhea is very frequent or watery or has blood present you should see your vet right away. It should be fine to try pumpkin now, but sometimes excess fiber makes diarrhea worse so I would stop after two tries if you don’t see improvement. And even though it isn’t pleasant to think about, cats lick their own feces all the time when they’re grooming. Nothing to worry about!

I’d consider having Micole examine by your Vet and some blood work done. Pica can be a sign of an underlying condition, deficiency or inflammatory bowel disease. I hope this helps!

It's very rare for a cat to eat his own poop and the fact that he is also licking the walls make me suspect that he might be suffering from some sort of mineral or vitamin deficiency. i would recommend to take him to the vet for a checkup and in order to have a blood test done, hopefully this will help diagnose the condition.

It is possible that the egg yolk was too rich for her and is now causing the diarrhea. Cats are extremely clean and she is likely licking herself to remove the leaking stool. Since she is so young and the diarrhea is so bad I would take her to your Vet for medications. I would try to not give her table food since she seems to have a sensitive stomach. Other causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, metabolic conditions.
