My cat licked Sentry PurrScriptions flea treatment. Is it safe?

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 3 months and 4 days old | 4 lbs

Hi there! I’m freaking out a little because I just gave my cat which weighs approximately 4lbs a Sentry PurrScriptions Plus product for cats under 5lbs about 30min ago for fleas. I know dosage is correct, and my cat seems fine. However after reading so many terrible online reviews about cat deaths related to this product, I’m terrified. Should I be this nervous? Also, my kitty licked a little off from her furr because I suppose it was bothersome, but now it has dried off. I’m so worried

Every medication that has an effect also can have a side effect. Considering many millions of pets are being treated with this preventative, but only few have serious side effects, you should not worry. According to this there are sometimes local reactions (skin reactions) If your kitty's skin in the application area looks normal or at worst slightly pinker than the surrounding skin, then she does not have an untowards reaction. She is going to be alright.

Just keep an eye on her. She would need to eat a lot of the product to get sick. You may want to give some wet food with added water to get the product to pass through more quickly. She should not experience any adverse side effects. I do tend to find that the flea / tick collars are not as effective as the oral preventative medications such as Bravecto. My cat licked topical flea treatment. What if she ingests it?

Hello, thank you for your question. I believe that keeping a close eye on your cat and trying to prevent her from licking the product is a good option. Most of these products cause mild GI upset or excessive salivation when they are ingested, but rarely life threatening signs. If your cat develops any vomiting, diarrhea, or inappetance I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian. Hope this helps, good luck!

My cat threw up after Sentry flea treatment. Is it dangerous?

Yes, Sentry products are not recommended. If you need flea prevention you should get it from your vet. My recommendation would be to try and wash off that medication ASAP. Use Dawn dishsoap to wash the cats since it will cut through the oils in the skin. Be sure to rinse them thoroughly and dry them with towels (not hair dryers). If they start showing any other symptoms, especially neurologic symptoms, they need to get to a vet as an emergency. Hope this helps. Sorry this happened. Best wishes.

My cat licked Revolution flea medicine. Is it safe and effective?

Not a good idea. Try putting a t-shirt on her for an hour or so until the skin absorbed most. Or you can put an e-collar on her for a little while, if you have one. I cannot tell you if it still will work when it is ingested, but since it is an avermectin it may. Watch for fleas. If fleas show up much earlier than the time it is supposed to last then it is not working. You can repeat the application about 2 weeks from now, if needed. She should be ok even if she ingests it.

These products don't usually taste good, silly Belle! The most common side effect would be hypersalivation, nausea, and vomiting. If you start to notice muscle tremors or seizures, then Belle should be evaluated by a vet immediately.
