My cat licked topical flea treatment. What if she ingests it?

I applied topical flea treatment to my cat and some of it got smeared on her fur(a place she can reach). I tried to wipe it off with a wet towel after I was sure it absorbed into her skin but idk if that's enough since it's water-proof. Should I just watch her for a while until it dries? And what should I do if she ingestes it, I don't know if I can get her to the vet in time.

I believe that keeping a close eye on your cat and trying to prevent her from licking the product is a good option. Most of these products cause mild GI upset or excessive salivation when they are ingested, but rarely life threatening signs. If your cat develops any vomiting, diarrhea, or inappetance I would recommend having her seen by a veterinarian.

While we prefer that they not lick the topical products, they are usually not enough to cause substantial toxic effects. Although, I can't say for sure without knowing the exact product.

Signs of toxicity are drooling, vomiting, behavior changes and tremors/seizures. If you see any of these, then you should take her to the vet for treatment. Otherwise, just make sure their is plenty of fresh clean water around and feed her as normal. If 24 hours go by and she's not having any problems, then likely she'll be OK.

Some flea medications can cause problems in cats. If the product you used is labeled for cats and is dosed appropriately Bella is unlikely to suffer any ill effects other than foaming at the mouth if the taste is unpleasant. If she begins acting strangely, vomiting or trembling I would recommend that you have her seen by your veterinarian. Most companies will list a customer service number on the package so you may contact the company with your concerns as well.

My dog licked topical flea treatment from their coat. Is it safe?

No. Unfortunately the topical product will get on their hair. It’s almost impossible to prevent this. It is best to prevent them from licking it but it shouldn’t hurt them. I would just watch them for any abnormal behaviors. If that product doesn’t seem to be helping much I would consider an oral flea preventative next time. These sometimes work better due to a faster kill time. I hope this helps!

These products don't usually taste good, silly Belle! The most common side effect would be hypersalivation, nausea, and vomiting. If you start to notice muscle tremors or seizures, then Belle should be evaluated by a vet immediately.

My cat licked flea drops and is freaking out. Is it toxic?

Hi there! The product you placed on her has a few essential oils in it but nothing else. These are generally not toxic but could cause an upset stomach if ingested. The only worry I would have is the product not working as non of these oils in the product are efficacious in treating and preventing fleas in cats. I would try a Rx from your veterinarian. If Bell appears very irritated with the product on her, then I'd give her a bath to wash off the oils. A product called Revolution or Comfortis works very well. You may to ask your vet about getting Bell on either one of those or something similar.

My cat licks her flea collar while grooming. Is this safe for her?

She should not experience any adverse side effects. I do tend to find that the flea / tick collars are not as effective as the oral preventative medications such as Bravecto.
