My cat licked raw egg yolk. Should I be worried about food poisoning?

It is possible that the egg yolk was too rich for her and is now causing the diarrhea. Cats are extremely clean and she is likely licking herself to remove the leaking stool. Since she is so young and the diarrhea is so bad I would take her to your Vet for medications. I would try to not give her table food since she seems to have a sensitive stomach. Other causes of diarrhea are: intestinal parasites, viral or bacterial infections, toxin ingestion, pancreatitis, metabolic conditions. But if her stools were normal before the egg yolk then it is likely that. I hope this helps and I wish Noushmc a speedy recovery!

Salmonella poisoning can be lifethreatening for several reasons - the infection can spread to the rest of the body (sepsis) and result in severe dehydration from vomiting and diarrhea. If you believe that Furby is having any of these signs, he should be seen by a vet immediately for supportive care. He may need IV medications, and antibiotics depending on the bacterial infection (E. coli, Campylobacter, and Helicobacter can be to blame as well). I do not recommend giving Furby antibiotics for humans, as they may be toxic.

It is not likely that your kitty will get sick from that . If your cat is healthy and strong there is hardly any chance that, even if there were salmonella or campylobacter bacteria on the chicken, he will get diarrhea or otherwise ill. I would not worry.

I am sorry to hear about your concern for your kitty! Ingesting a small amount of shampoo (provided it isnt' a medicated kind) would not be likely to cause any poisoning/toxicity in your kitty, but could cause some stomach upset. I would just recommend monitoring her appetite and energy level and watching for vomiting. If you notice changes in these then a visit to your vet is recommended.

Hi and thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sorry to hear about Norik. Some puppies and dogs are extremely sensitive to any changes in their diet. Some will tolerate and others will react like this. The AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) does NOT support the use of raw foods for pets. If you want to feed him some eggs or egg yolks, I would lightly cook them and see if he can keep them down. Start with small amounts added to his regular food. Eggs and yolks are great protein and fat sources. Good luck

A small amount is fine. As long as they are thoroughly cooked it should be OK for your cat to have some of an egg yolk. It is best that their main source of food is a balanced cat food. That ensures they are getting plenty of minerals and vitamins that are necessary in the right ratio's.

I would not be concerned if those were the only ingredients, Otis should be fine. He may get a slight amount of gastrointestinal upset. You may notice some mild vomiting or diarrhea.
