My cat licked Raid fly paper glue. Is it toxic? Does he need a vet?

I would check the label of the fly strip. Some of them are non-toxic, and if this is one of them, then it will not harm Marlow. The labels should let you know if there are any poisons or vapors in it. Should you not have the label, then I would google the name of fly strip you used to find out the ingredients. Then give a call to the Pet Poison Hotline at (888) 426-4435 (there is a $65 fee) to get more help, or you can post here again with the ingredient information and an expert can better advise you. Even if the strip is non-toxic, it's still not good for Marlow to lick it. I would bath him in Dawn dish soap to get it out of his fur. You can also shave the sticky parts out with clippers, or take him into a groomer to have the sticky fur shaved. To keep him from licking it until you can get him into a groomer, I would put an Ecollar on him.

You can try olive oil or vegetable oil and rub it gently into the mat of glue on your cat's fur. Continue to rub the oil into the glue until it loosens the glue from the fur. You could also bathe her with Dawn dish soap and see if that helps. Another option is to buy a pair of clippers and shave the areas that have glue. I believe that most of the sticky fly trap papers are not toxic but you should check the packaging to confirm. It might cause some gastric upset if she licks a lot of it.

Because Blue only licked it so briefly, I would not rush her into a vet. You may see some drooling and frothing at mouth. I would rinse out her mouth with cool water using a syringe, and keep an eye on her. If she does start acting out of the ordinary, starts having uncoordinated movements, tremors, convulsions, or seizures, I would take her into a vet immediately.

If you want to rinse her mouth out well with water as a precaution and wipe her paws well with water to prevent any more possible ingestion that isn't wrong. If she becomes lethargic, drools, won't eat or in anyway appears abnormal then bring her to the Vet. But based on your description I think she will be fine. Maybe have a discussion with your roommate about this so it won't happen again. I hope this helps!
