My cat got candle wax on its tail. Will he get sick if he licks it?

Ouch, poor Leo! Even though his skin is not overly red and inflamed, it seems likely that he may have burned himself on the candle melt yesterday. Burns are extremely painful, which could explain his sudden behavioral changes. Since there are no safe over the counter pain medications for cats, I recommend taking Leo to his vet. If there is a chance that the skin was burned by the wax, I would recommend having Milks examined by your veterinarian because burns can be very serious and difficult to heal. The wax from a candle warmer is probably not hot enough to cause serious burns. You can try combing or brushing out the wax, or bathing and using a human hair conditioner to break up the wax. Otherwise, you can let it fall out as Sweetums sheds hair or use hair clippers (NOT SCISSORS) to cut the hair that contains the wax.

Not sure what he actually ate since there are many different waxing products out there. I would advise that if the vomiting doesn't resolve or worsens over the next 6-12 hours, you should take him to a veterinarian and get him evaluated. The ingestion of this product could cause a lot of irritation and a possible foreign body in the stomach or intestinal tract. Your vet can gather a thorough history (more about the product) and examine him. Once that is done, a treatment plan can be outlined. I hope the vomiting stops soon and Sonec returns to normal. Thank you for submitting your question regarding Bandit. I would bathe just the affected areas with Dawn dish soap. It is good at the stripping the fur and will hopefully strip any remaining wax off of him. You do not want him to ingest the wax. If he becomes lethargic or refuses to eat or drink, he will need to see his veterinarian. Good luck!

You could rub some vegetable or olive oil onto the area. Massaging the oil into the fur will help unbind the glue. Then rinse with warm water. You could also try to bathe the tail with dawn dish soap and see if that works. You could also just shave the fur with clippers to remove the glue.
