Cat lethargic, vomiting after cortisone shot. Should I see a vet?

Poor Sansa! It is possible these clinical signs are related to the injections. Steroids can make pets have many side effects and upset stomach is one of them. The antibiotic is typically better tolerated but it can also make pets have a upset stomach as well. It’s also possible this is coincidental. I recommend to call the veterinarian and alert them as to what you were seeing. They may ask to see Sansa to check her for a fever or other evidence of illness. Make sure Sansa eats and drinks today. You may try offering her some palatable canned cat food with some extra water added. If she continues to be a lethargic or not eating or drinking for 24 hours, she should be seen by the veterinarian as dehydration can settle in quickly. It is common for animals to experience nausea post-surgery, especially if it is an abdominal surgery or strong pain medications are used. If you are giving any medications, I would stop for 24 hours and notify the veterinarian that you are stopping the medications to see if Stella improves. If you are giving something such as Buprenex for post operative pain control, this particular drug can cause nausea, vomiting, shaking, lethargy, etc. If she is not improved within 24 hours, then I would recommend having her examined by your veterinarian so that the most appropriate diagnostic and treatment recommendations can be made. Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Mochi! She is adorable! I have a few questions, is Mochi on any medications? If so, what are they. Medications can make cats vomit. Or the medications she was given while at the Vet hospital. I recommend stopping any oral medications you are giving and call the Veterinarian in charge of Mochi's care. If she is not on any medication I still think you should call to discuss if any medication she was given the end of Sept could be upsetting her stomach. If this isn't mediated related I wouldn't allow too many days tog o by before having her rechecked. Other causes of vomiting are: viral or bacterial infections, pancreatitis, intestinal inflammation, foreign body ingestion (some thing is stuck), food allergy or intolerance, ate something that is disagreeing with her. Sometimes vaccination reactions can cause the symptoms you are seeing so it would be advisable to have her looked at so the reaction does not progress. It could be an allergy to something else or she may need a stronger medication like steroids to treat the initial allergic reaction. Sometimes antihistamines are not enough to control the reaction. Vomiting and inappetence can be observed with conditions such as gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, dietary indiscretion, gastrointestinal foreign body ingestion and obstruction, among other possibilities. She may be having side effects to the medications administered. Hair loss and scratching are likely due to allergies. For this reason, I highly recommend that you have Shelby evaluated by a veterinarian for further assessment and treatment as soon as possible as I am afraid she is likely becoming dehydrated.
